MARBLE ARMS - Savage Arms 99 Tang Sight Rear Sight Black

Recently bought a nearly new Savage Model 99 EG .30-30 caliber. Struggled with the idea of a receiver or tang sight. The receiver sights, vintage, are quite expensive and rather bulky. I saw the ad for the new Marbles tang sight and was floored by the low price. Never had a rifle with a tang sight before, so I decided to take a chance. Glad I did! The sight is all steel and SUPERBLY finished. The blueing actually matched the blueing on my rifle pretty closely. The sight adjustments are positive and there is no slop in the assembly. I had heard tang sights are fragile. This one is actually rather robust in its construction. It would take some deliberate effort to damage it. Initially I thought I was going to have to get a higher front sight, but I could actually go with a lower one to get back some elevation. The sight does not fit flush with the tang, until you tighten the screws. I was worried the sight base would contact the stock. No problems! The base is a uniform 1/16 inch off the wood. No dents! The 3 provided apertures are excellent. The mid size being best for me. It has been said that tang sights can injure the eye because of their mounting position. This is not the case with my M99. I would have to REALLY creep up on it to get that close. When folded, the sight is secure and doesn't flex enough to contact wood. Its amazing to me that Marbles can make such a quality STEEL sight at this price! My M99 is my favorite rifle and this sight is a most welcome addition to her. Plus, there's the "cool" factor.

The item shown above isn't the item I bought. I purchased the tang sight you see when you click on the item above (just for information). The item I purchase fits like a glove using the existing screw holes tapped in my 22HP. I can't be more pleased with this purchase because the old sight was damaged beyon repair and wouldn't hold adjustments. I talked with a Marble rep at the St Louis NRA show and they weren't aware the sight was available from Marble. Great to find Brownells website with this item. Keep up the great work.

The holes line up perfectly on the tang of the Savage 99A series. However, the actual sight ends up 1/2 way down the stock where your hand goes. It also prevents you from removing the stock which is necessary to properly clean the rifle from the rear. To make it work properly I think the sight shouldn't go past the tang. Buy with caution.
