Fitting needed, remove fiber to install
Yes, this sight has a base that is wider than most slots--I think the base on mine measured around .392". Would be a real advantage in an older, well-used rifle if its dovetail was "relieved" at some point; however, it's a (small) hassle to fit on a new gun (Henry Big Boy for me). A grinding wheel--a small Dremel grinding wheel works--might speed up the process over a file, but go slow and check Even when you've got the base tapered so you can get it started well, you'll still have to pound to get it centered; well, at least it won't come loose! Remove the fiber-optic pipe before doing so (the pipe has only two supports, and so is more easy to snap as you pound the sight), and replace it (presses in) when you're done. Very pleased with the final result: handsome and very bright.
