What is the GG&G, INC. - Direct Thread UFIR Rail Picatinny Aluminum Black 4.5"?

Aluminum accessory rail bolts to the underside of the standard factory plastic handguard to enable fast, easy mounting of lights, vertical grips, bipods, and other accessories. The “UFIR” features 11 cross slots machined to MIL-STD-1913 specifications to provide a variety of accessory options depending on the mission. Attaches to the underside of USGI-style plastic AR-15/M16 rifle or M4-style carbine handguard using the included mounting hardware.

SPECS: 6061 T6 aluminum, mil-spec Type III hardcoat anodized, matte black. 45?8" (11.7cm) long. Steel mounting hardware included.

works great gives me the space i needed
This was exactly what i needed to add a front grip and light to my DPMS ar-15 w/ stock handgrip. The hardest thing about the install was getting the grip off the rifle. after that i was done in 3 min.

Works just fine on Colt Expanse M4
This product is advertised to work on the bottom handguard and it certainly does perfectly. It has been dehorned of sharp edges and is comfortable to hold while shooting. It is very solid and useful for many additions to the AR15 handguard. One comment is that if 3 shorter screws were sent with the unit, it could be used on the top handguard as well. The protruding screw ends hit the gas tube and so it can't fasten on the top, but just by eyeballing the situation, if the proper length screws were used, it would work as a top rail as well, IMO.

Nice rail
Perfect for adding a fore grip to my Ruger AR-556 without making it too Hollywood. Mounted it to CAR 'Skinny" handguards (Ruger factory handguards have no heat shield) with no problem. Very happy!
