VOLQUARTSEN - Barrel 22 Long Rifle 16.5" Black

I wanted to make a lightweight takedown scout carbine. The scope rail as installed did not allow enough relief for my Burris 2.75x20 Scout Scope but by turning the rail around (2 allen bolts) it offered the perfect mounting position and shortens OAL.

Shorter and lighter than the factory takedown barrel. Threaded with thread protector included. Would require fitting to the standard black polymer 10/22 takedown stock, but I chose to order the aluminum hand guard direct from Volquartsen because it wasn’t in stock at Brownell’s.

I recently bought this product and ran it at a Project Appleseed clinic. It is VERY lightweight: Only 1.3 pounds including the scope mount due to using carbon fiber tensioned barrel. It feels even lighter than that and is only 4 ounces heavier with scope and rings than my old standard diameter Ruger barrel with red dot and Magpul mount. Since a lightweight aluminum 22LR suppressor weighs only a couple ounces more than the included stainless steel thread protector, it is begging to be suppressed. With the backpacker forend installed, it still connects to the stock when taken down and doesnt extend the length too much with the scope (though a few inches more than the red dot solution). It shoots nice tight groups - the target pictured is a 1/4 inch grid at 25 meters, 5-shot group from prone with Eley CMP SV ammo (nothing special). Finally, it looks sci-fi modern - the carbon fiber wrap looks great contrasted with the stainless parts, matte black stock, and glossier receiver finish. Highly recommend!

Straight out of the box, this does not work with Brownell's BRN-22 receiver. In order for it to work, you have to remove the picatinny rail and place a washer under each screw hole to allow clearance to the receiver. That or find someone to machine 1/16" off the bottom side of the picatinny rail portion. I'm trying the washers for now, but worried the scope won't hold zero. It also has an issue with oversized (round) bolt handles. There's not much clearance with the bolt fully retracted as you try to remove the barrel. It becomes a pinch point and overall is not easy. Otherwise the fit and finish is amazing. I would do it again, but Volquartsen should have caught and corrected all this.
