What is the BROWNELLS - BRN-4/M27 5.56x45 16.5" Medium Chrome Lined Barrel Phosphate?

“M27” inspired 5.56x45mm Barrel for the BRN-4® platform

Not previously available in this configuration, the BRN-4 M27 16.5 inch 5.56x45mm NATO chrome lined barrel features a forward mounted bayonet lug. Manufactured by Faxon for Brownells, these manganese phosphate barrels are machined from 4150 chrome moly steel, and feature a precision buttoned rifle 1-7 twist bore with chrome lined 5.56x45mm NATO chamber.

The bayonet lug attaches after installation of the gas block. The bayonet lug installs the same way as the gas block, with a simple coil pin driven in from the side. This makes for an extremely robust mount for a bayonet. Be sure to use a BRN-4 16” gas block for this barrel. The muzzle features ½-28 threads, so it can accept the standard A2 flash hider found on the M27, or any common aftermarket AR15 muzzle device. Barrel extension has M4 feed ramps to accept a wide variety of 223 or 5.56 ammunition.

Compatible with the Brownells BRN-4 upper receiver group, and is also compatible with HK®, 416, MR556 and MR223 platforms.

good if you don't want to spend $700+ on a Nefarious
Only thing this doesn't have is CHF, but honestly if you burn this barrel out you've spent so much on ammo already so just buy another BRN barrel. I got one of these barrels secondhand with 40 rounds through it, only gripe I have is the bayo lug is loose and is able to be rotated a few degrees. Since it's a secondhand barrel from Reddit, I'm not sure if it's the BRN bayo lug or an aftermarket one (the finish is worn, so I think it's a real HK one). Maybe I'll message Brownells CS to buy just a BRN bayo lug to see if it's the issue. Anyway, just buy this cause it's the cheapest m27 profile barrel and be honest with yourself, you don't need CHF for flat range larping.

M27 barrel
Mine came with the bayonet lug. Finish is nice, similar to FN barrels. Was easy to install gas block and lugs as the barrel is pre drilled in the proper locations.

Good Barrel for the most part
Barrel is good, on good days can print 1 or 2 MOA, what other people say about the bayonet lug being short of the handguard is true, also rattles a bit as well. But it still beats any one elses price for 416 style barrels.

updated review- this barrel is too short
After seeing the brownells m38 video with the BRN 11" handguard, I realized this barrel is too short in some dimension compared to a real m27 barrel. I suspect it's the distance from the receiver to the shoulder that the bayonet lug sits on- on a real m27, the bayonet lug shoulder should be right where the 11" handguard ends. On this one, the lug actually sits back in the handguard a little to where the end of the handguard lines up with the lug pin. I talked to a guy on reddit who has this barrel with an OEM HK 11" quad, and the lug shoulder should definitely be forward about 3/32". Disappointing.
