COLT - 1911 Government Rail Slide

Narrow Hood slide, use Narrow Hood barrel Colt part number SP57960.

This is a narrow hood slide,measures .396 across breech. Colt Semi-Drop-In Barrel Colt 1911 Manufacturer #: SP57960 UPC #: 197706460781 measures .394 at barrel hood. Barrel dropped in and fits good at hood and lugs with no fitting. Slide fits well on Colt O1911c frame.

Finish is excellent, fit to Colt 70 & 80 series & Springfield frames was very good. As others noted, is a narrow hood breech slot so if you want a true "drop in" barrel make sure you order a barrel with a narrow hood. If you are comfortable with a file, a few strokes on each side of the barrel hood will have you good to go in quick order. My preferred Ed Brown "drop in" barrel required MINOR filing of the hood to fit (same as I encountered with the STI "bald" slides, YMMV). The 3-dot sights it comes installed with are typical, the rear sight being a "no snag" type with a sloped front, no ledge for one-handed cocking, both rear and front are drift adjustable for windage only. The Novak cuts will give you multiple options for replacement sights. Overall, exceeded my expectations.

Looks Awesome and of good quality. BUT, not a single spare barrel I owned would drop into the slide. (5) ! Everything must be fitted. Two of the barrels were Colt and would not drop into the slide. I'm not talking operating the gun, I'm talking dropping the locking lugs of the barrel into the bare slide, Two of the used barrels would start but foot would shift to left and barrel not engage locking lugs! Worst I've seen! Requires massive fitting.

This slide is to be part of a Govt. Model that will be presented to my son for his birthday. It is well finished with Novak 3-dot sights. I would have given it 4+ stars but for one important issue. The slot for the barrel hood extension is too narrow. I have several Colt factory barrels and none of them fit the slide in that area. A Ed Brown "drop in" barrel failed to fit as well. I understand that sometimes even generic parts need fitting. But I surely expected a Colt factory part to fit Colt factory parts.
