WILSON COMBAT - 1911 BULLET PROOF® BEAVERTAIL GRIP SAFETY

I have installed three of these grip safeties on different 1911-A1s. They are very well machined and finished. Great value for the money.

I purchased one of these for a custom build I had done on a Wilson Combat frame. The quality and workmanship of the part is outstanding. They are fully cnc machined from a forging which is why they are more expensive. The profile of the beavertail is also slightly different from the cast version of this part. These are all that I will use from now on.

I have an old Series 70 Commander that wore a Wilson Combat drop-in beaver tail safety. While it was still better than stock, it still wasn’t super comfortable with its sharp edges and uneven fit to the frame. So I sucked it up and nervously ground on my frame to try fitting this. It feels worlds better. It melts smoothly in my hand and seems to bring my hand up higher than the drop-in version. Definitely worth it. I at first tried their cheaper standard beaver tail (non-Bullet Proof), but was sorely disappointed in its fit and machining. This is an impeccable component. I’m giving 4 stars instead of 5 due to the need to have a special jig, and once you cut your frame for a Wilson profile, you are stuck with Wilson’s since they have a contour incompatible with anything else.

To make it clear, on a sliding scale I'd really rate this a 4.5 or 4.75. This grip safety is very solid, while a lot of others I've seen have the interiors milled out a little or are essentially shells, this one only has a cutout for the hammer strut. Installation was very easy for me but I cheated a bit and ordered a frame with the Wilson radius already cut into it. The bump makes it near impossible not to engage the grip safety, something I had a bit of trouble with when I first started shooting 1911s. Now for the reason I didn't give it the full 5 stars, the finish. While the other SS parts I ordered from Wilson and a few other manufacturers for this build are all matte finish, this has more of satin or a little shinier finish on the outward surface. As this build is going to end up being my range toy, I want everything on it perfect. I can live with the finish as it is a very solid grip safety, but I just want to warn others that it may not match the finish of matte SS parts on your gun.
