What is the ED BROWN - 18lb. Commander Recoil Spring?
Premium-quality replacement for old, tired factory recoil springs in the 1911 Commander improves function and reliability. Constant rate design along the entire length to help keep the slide closed longer when shooting heavy loads. Reduces wear from battering and shortens the distance spent casings are ejected. High tensile strength, round wire, spring steel ensures years of reliable service. 18 lb. is the correct, factory weight and an excellent choice for restoring your pistol to its original specs. 20 lb. Extra power spring holds the slide closed a little longer to help solve the problem of brass ejecting too far (more than 15 feet). SPECS: Round-wire spring steel. Approximately 5-1?8' (13cm) long uncompressed. Fits Commander-length 1911 pistols.

Slow shipping
This is a great spring, I would hope it is easy to install, it's a recoil spring, unless you have never cleaned or used a 1911, you should be able to install this in under a minute. Dropped right in on my Commander and solved the FTF problem I had the last time I shot. I just wish they would use a different shipper; it took over a week to get to my house, causing me to have to switch carry guns during the wait. Not a big deal, but inconvenient.

What I needed
I ordered it on a Monday, it was out the door Tuesday, got it Thursday. But what's really nice is the clear concise manner they designed their website. Trying to figure out what recoil spring you need for your particular 1911 can be very confusing. The descriptions guide you through it and you order with confidence! (now if I can order primers from them someday!)

Cut to size
Ed Brown, Commander recoil spring is cut to size unlike Wolff. I like that , it makes for a better fit. As the Wolff is to long and needs to be cut. For the extra 3 bucks it's worth it to me. As a 1911 has so many parts to tune and fit.

Solved My Problem
Shooting a Springfield 1911 using both standard 230gr. FMJ and 200gr. JHP +P loads. I begain experiencing bent brass, ocasional stovepipes & spent brass that was thrown in excess of 10-12 feet. After changing to the 20 pound spring, I have yet to experience a malfunction. My brass stays colser & is now reload-able again. The gun is more pleasant to shoot, softer reciol.
