HARRISON DESIGN & CONSULTING - 1911 45 ACP EXTREME SERVICE SLIDE STOP

The slide stop is one of those pistol components that promotes administrative safety and continuity of fire; like the magazine release. Durability and optimal functional design are important. The Harrison slide stop is designed to provide sufficient purchase surface to operate with little or no alteration of the shooting grip, while the slide stop has snag-free surfaces. During administrative clearing, the ability to lock the slide open while maintaining a proper shooting grip is important for safety. In speed reloading, if the shooter chooses to use the slide stop as a slide release, the Harrison part provides excellent surface area for maintaining a shooting grip. These slide stops are very well constructed, providing long service life. Like any quality part, particularly for the 1911/2011 designs, there maybe some fitting required. Fitting is good because sloppy, loose parts degrade accuracy and reliability. The slide stop pin is the key interfaces between frame and barrel link that relates to accuracy. Also, a snug fit, mated to the particular pistol, reduces wear on this important part. John Harrison thought through the design of this part very well, as he has with all of his parts.

If I were Gun Tests, I probably would say "best buy" at that. I've used these in both .45acp and 9mm/.38 Super, and the unique paddle design is nothing short of phenominal for my grip style. Sans the extension, of course, which might otherwise give you different problems if not careful. It's a well designed, very well made and tough piece. Don't count on drop in for every gun though, just went through fits recently getting one into both an STI Trojan and a Les Baer Monolith. But truth is, it's such a good part that I can't make myself downgrade it for that.

I was excited about the potential for this stainless steel extended slide stop, SKU # 10005834, as it nicely matches the coloring of the trigger, hammer, and barrel of my SW1911 Pro Series 45acp 3” barrel. The slide stop is advertised as drop-in for 1911 gov’t, commander, and officer’s models; and the manufacturer claims to machine to precise dimensions. However, I did not find this to be accurate and there are major quality control issues. First, the angle of cut is more pronounced on the Harrison design slide stop than the S&W OEM slide stop; the Harrison SS has an approx 13 degree diagonal cut versus an 8 degree diagonal cut on the S&W OEM SS. Second, the Harrison SS has a squared off piece at the lower left edge of the diagonal cut, versus a completely straight diagonal cut on the S&W OEM SS. These QC issues resulted in the Harrison SS not fitting my pistol at all. I would need to take a file or dremel to the SS, which may not even fix these issues. Will be returning.

I ordered 2 of these because of the way they look. I liked the smooth lines over the more traditional profile. My issue is with the size of the pin. one was .2015" and the other was .202". That is alot to polish off and I don't want to open up the holes in my $400 frame to accompany a $50 stop.
