What is the CALDWELL SHOOTING SUPPLIES - Picatinny Mount Brass Catcher?

Picking up your empty cases at the range is not only time consuming but a real hassle - until now! With the AR-15 Pic Rail Brass Catcher mounted on your rifle’s Picatinny rail, cases are ejected straight into a collection bag for disposal - or reloading - later. Unlike traditional catchers, the AR-15 Pic Rail Brass Catcher has an aluminum clamp and steel wire frame that are fully adjustable to work with almost any rail and optic configuration. The bag will not interfere with bolt function or cycling.

  • Ideal for reloaders - no more scrounging around the range to get your brass back!
  • Mounts on the Picatinny rail of most AR-15 tactical rifles
  • Also compatible with most .308 AR-pattern rifles
  • Quick detach aluminum clamp
  • Heat resistant mesh bag holds up to 100 empty .223 cases

The AR-15 Pic Rail Brass Catcher keeps ejected brass from cluttering up your shooting area or hitting other shooters. Convenient zipper at bottom of mesh bag makes emptying quick and easy.

Reviews Summary
The Caldwell Brass Catcher Picatinny Mount effectively captures brass from various firearms, aiding reloaders in maintaining their brass. However, many users report durability issues, especially with the fabric melting and tiny screws causing mounting challenges. While it serves its primary function well, compatibility with certain scopes can lead to frustration.
What Reviewers Are Saying
Product Effectiveness
75%
Most reviewers agree that the brass catcher does an excellent job of collecting spent casings. Users are generally satisfied with how it works, mentioning its efficiency in keeping the shooting area clean and the ease of emptying the bag, though the nylon material can melt under high heat.
Durability Concerns
60%
Several reviewers highlighted issues with the durability of the catcher. After repeated use, the fabric tends to develop holes, and some have experienced melting due to hot brass. This raises concerns about the product’s long-term reliability under heavy use.
Mounting Compatibility
70%
Compatibility with different mounts and scope setups is a prominent theme. Users reported difficulties when using forward-offset one-piece mounts, indicating that the product's design is not universally compatible with all setups, which can complicate its use.
Mounting Mechanism
55%
The small screws used for the mounting mechanism drew criticism from multiple reviewers. Many found them challenging to adjust, particularly when trying to reposition the catcher. Suggestions for a more user-friendly mounting solution, such as thumb-turn screws, were noted.
Value for Money
50%
Despite some concerns, many users feel that the Caldwell Brass Catcher offers good value for the price. Its functionality, especially for reloaders looking to collect their brass, seems to outweigh its drawbacks for a considerable number of buyers.

Simple bass catcher: it's in the bag!
We have already bought a second of this model brass catcher and will buy more as needed. We are serious about catching our brass as we plan to get into reloading someday, plus, we don't want to litter our pasture with brass. I saw the one complaint about the tiny screws for adjusting the position of the bag but I don't recall having any trouble with those, but then I have a set of the smaller Torx style lobed driver bits which may have helped. Without the exact bit, they would be a big problem.

Does the job
Slapped it on an AR. All the empty shells of a 30-rounder ended in the catcher. I don't have to pickup up the empties on the floor or ground. It is easy to unload the catcher when full. The only negative I saw is that the net of the catcher gets cooked by the hot brass and starts to harden.

Excellent brass catcher for an AR
I bought a Caldwell brass catcher to mount on my SA "Saint" rifle. I placed the Picatinny mount just in front of the charge handle (end of Picatinny rail) behind a Burris P.E.R.P. scope mount. Works very well together. Even with the catcher offset to the end of its frame opening it works beautifully. I bench rest shoot 90% of the time. Every 20 or 30 rds. I empty the brass. My brass has less nicks and dents and I don't have to scrounge around looking for "my brass" when others are shooting next to me. As one who reloads I like to keep track of my brass and isolate it from others. I'm very pleased with how well the Caldwell brass catcher works. I also like that you can buy a upper receiver mount separately so you can use the catcher on more than one rifle.

Good product but..
As mentioned in another review, its not great if you have a one piece scope mount. I was able to position mine after the mount but it only covers the ejection port around 90%. May be worse for others depending on the position of the mount. In terms of function, it does what it needs to do and does it well, hence the 4 stars :)

Almost perfect
Works great but 2 things to make it perfect. 1) thumb turn mounting instead of a star head Allen key to install would be better since I plan on using it on multiple different rifles so it's annoying to use an Allen key to switch gun to gun...and hope you remember the key when you go to the range. 2nd thing is if you run a tavor or similar bore height rifles it will not work. The brass bag slides side to side but it would be nice if you could cant the bag too for rifles like the tavor
