Will Damage Fresh Bluing
I just reblued a Springfield Mod. 1896 rifle that had been sporterized. Whoever did the sporterizing filled screw holes in the barrel and receiver with either lead or soft solder. After bluing in Oxynate No. 7, the plugged screw holes remained uncolored. I applied some Soft Solder Black to one of these plugs with a cotton swab. It did not color the plug at all, but it removed the new bluing as effectively as any rust/blue remover I have ever seen. I was left with a 3/8" diameter circle of bright white steel that stood out like a headlight. Needless to say, I had to repolish and reblue the barrel.
