What is the KG PRODUCTS - K-PHOS PRE-TREATMENT?
Advanced phosphate liquid replaces the hot tank phosphating process to provide protection against rust and corrosion, plus a superior crystalline bonding surface for Brownells GUN-KOTE finishes. K-PHOS chemically etches and instantly seals the metal surface to prevent rust prior to painting. Application requires surfaces to be completely degreased using Brownells TCE or KG3 Solvent Degreaser. Machined surfaces can be abrasive blasted for maximum adhesion. Easy application: brush on, dip the parts, or spray on with air brush. Does not require thinning, and dries in 10 to 15 minutes for fast turn-around. Highly recommended for use with GUN-KOTE on alloy steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and sound quality nickel and chrome plating. Meets MIL-C-490A and TT-C-490 specifications. SPECS: Liquid, clear. 8 fl. oz. (237 mL) or 16 fl. oz. (473 mL) plastic bottle.

Excellent for long term rust-proofing
I used this product 15 years ago on cast iron parts I had bead blasted...still no rust. Awesome product. Here to buy more for a major project.

Good Stuff
Not sure what the other reviewer meant about "hard to use". I use a small automotive "jamb gun" to apply. Stuff has always worked great for me. I've done A LOT of gun parts with KG products & am very happy with the results.

Unnecessary Pre-Treatment
When I was turned onto KG K-Phos I was very excited to give it a shot. It's suppose to give Gunkote a nice surface to adhere too however, the surface was very uneven. I used it on a Remington 700 bolt and an AR barrel, K-Phos left a rough surface that was visible through heavy coats of Gunkote. You're better to just sand blast and leave this step out all together.
