Remington 788 stock
If you are familiar with the above gun stock the wood is either birch or beech. They are difficult to stain. This product is the best thing I have found to stain either. It dries quickly and does not raise the grain. The stock turned out to be a dark chocolate color, I then applied numerous coats of Truoil to finish the stock. If you want a lighter color use one of the of the other stains.

As Advertised
First off let me say I have tried a lot of other off-the-shelf stains. I was trying to get an old military brich stock to match a couple of walnut handguards. While the grain is quite different, this stain came through. I got the color and tone I was after. Very fast drying, I was able to finish the stock in a couple hours.

Color not as advertised
I spoke with a Brownell's tech who advised me to get this color when I wanted a red, alcohol-based stain. That was bad advice, because this particular stain is brown, not red. That said, the stain works well and comes in a plastic bottle which is truly resealable. It won't dry out, and the screw-off top won't get gummed up and not open.
