Product Spotlight: SureFire Lights for Rifles & Shotguns

one year ago
Andrew Wright from SureFire again joins our own Caleb Savant to give us a rundown of SureFire's lights for long guns. In earlier episodes, he covered flashlights (handheld lights) and handgun lights. So what illumination options does SureFire offer for rifles and shotguns?

The Micro Scout is designed for use on very compact guns like the SIG Sauer Rattler. It runs on one AAA battery but still pumps out a respectable 300 lumens of light. A shroud extends from the back of the Micro Scout to protect its pushbutton tailcap switch from accidental activation. With the Mini Scout you step up to a 500-lumen output powered by a single CR-123 lithium cell. The Mini's shrouded tailcap switch offers both momentary and constant-on operation.

Need more power? The Dual Fuel Scout Light runs on two CR-123 batteries OR a single rechargeable 18650 lithium ion battery. With the 18650, it puts out 1,500 lumens in SureFire's "hybrid" beam pattern. The hybrid beam has a hot spot in the center and good, consistent peripheral flood illumination. This is a versatile, all-around workhorse of a light! Don't need the rechargeability? Go with the Scout M640 that runs on just the two CR-123s.

The Turbo Scout also uses the Dual Fuel system and has a high-candela beam pattern, meaning the beam is much narrower than the hybrid beam, so it has a longer reach. The full-size Turbo Scout puts out 700 lumens with the 18650 cell and 600 lumens with two CR-123s. The smaller Mini Turbo Scout runs on one CR-123 or one 18350 rechargeable battery. Max output is 650 lumens with the 18350, a little less with the 123.

All of these lights use SureFire's low-profile Scout Light Pro Mount. It's a two-part system. One part is integral to the light's body and attaches to a "cleat." The cleat attaches directly to the firearm. The light hinges on the cleat so you can position the light for easiest access to the tailcap switch. When you find the right position, tighten the cleat screw to lock the light in place. Caleb really likes how close to the handguard he can position the light with the M-LOK® cleat. Each light comes with M1913 Picatinny and M-LOK® cleats, so you don't have to pony up the spondulicks to buy a separate light mount!

What if you need a different switch configuration from the standard pushbutton tailcap switch? SureFire offers many remote switch and pressure switch options. You may need a new tailcap that has a socket for the remote switch. Dual-switch tailcaps have both the socket AND a pushbutton switch. Best of both worlds!
