Reviews Summary
The SAFETY POWDER SCALE generally receives positive feedback for its accuracy and reliability in reloading tasks, with many users appreciating its sensitive readings and overall value. However, some customers report difficulties with setup and consistency, prompting them to prefer other brands. It’s noted for its excellent performance at an affordable price.
What Reviewers Are Saying
Product Accuracy
80%
A significant number of reviewers praise the SAFETY POWDER SCALE for its high level of accuracy, noting that it can measure incremental changes as small as one grain of powder. This precision makes it a valuable tool for serious reloaders aiming for consistent and perfect loads. Many users trust its readings against more expensive scales.
Ease of Use
50%
While many customers find the scale easy to use, a notable portion struggles with its setup and settling time, reporting fluctuating readings. This has led to mixed experiences, with some suggesting that the scale requires a careful environment to perform optimally.
Value for Money
65%
Several reviewers highlight the SAFETY POWDER SCALE as a good bargain, offering exceptional quality for its low price. Users feel they get more than their money’s worth, especially when compared to more expensive brands.
Customer Service
35%
Feedback on customer service is generally positive. Users report being well-treated when reaching out for help or clarification, suggesting the company is responsive and helpful, despite some customers' frustrations with the product itself.
Calibration Sensitivity
40%
The sensitivity of the scale is a double-edged sword; while it allows for very precise measurements, it can also be prone to instability if not used in optimal conditions. Reviewers advise careful handling and regular calibration to maintain accuracy.
Comparisons to Other Brands
30%
Some users have compared the SAFETY POWDER SCALE unfavorably to other scales, indicating that they had better results with brands like RCBS and Redding. This highlights that although many find the Lee scale to be effective, there are those who prefer alternatives that they feel offer more consistent performance.

Good value
Use to confirm powder drop dispenser; and to weigh each load of rifle charges mostly with SR4759 powder. This scale reflects the change of the addition or subtraction of one single grain of powder. Logically, that's as accurate as one can use for reloading. Had no problems with this scale, at all. Not a status symbol, just a good accurate scale at a bargain price.

Most accurate
If you want a scale that settles quickly because it isn't accurate to 1/20 of a grain like this one then dont buy this scale. This scale is so accurate that it is a bit hard to "settle" but if you keep it away from fans and don't ham hand it, it will load the most accurate of any scale. I have had one for 15 years and it is still as accurate as the day I bought it, in fact it is designed that unless the bar is broken, it will be perfect. This scale gets a bad rap from people who are used to fast "production" type scales that may vary 1/2 grain or more, but if you test this scale against all the rest and against a certified standard test weight, you will see that none of the others are as accurate at any price. I own many scales of different manufacture, and I can afford any scale I want, but when I want to load those perfect, show off at the range, 5 shots touching, loads, I use this scale to do it.

Inexpensive, accurate and reliable
I've been using the Lee powder Safety Scale since 1992 and have found it easy to use, extremely accurate and totally reliable. When I reload, I weigh every load and I have complete confidence that the load I weigh is accurate. I even tested the weights of measured loads against a laboratory scale and found the Lee weights to be "spot on." One thing I learned early on is that this scale is extremely sensitive...so much so that it will react to the slighest breeze. Therefore, I cannot load near an air conditioner vent or with a fan blowing because the scale will never settle into balance. This, however, is a good thing because the scale will react to the weight of even one flake of powder and that's what you want if you're loading maximum loads. I make it a habit to recalibrate the scale at the beginning of every loading session because changes in temperature or humidity can cause the scale to lose its calibration. That's to be expected with an instrument that is as sensitive as this one. It's easy to recalibrate by setting the slide to zero, hanging on the empty powder basket then rotating a thumb screw until zero is achieved. The only complaint I have(and it's very minor) is that there is no way to lock the thumb screw making it remotely possible to brush it and lose calibration when adjusting the slide. That being said, I have never had that happen in the thousands of loads I have weighed with this scale, probably because the thumb screw is well protected by the scale's beam. I find this scale to be one of the best values of all of my reloading equipment and typical of the quality and value of Lee products.

Sensitive
This scale has worked perfectly for 40+ years. the only thing I woud change... ok two things. A bullseye level (I glued one on) and a clear plastic box to fit loosly over it to shield from any draft. Like any sensitive scale or balance if a butterfly goes past your door it will disturb the scale. That is why all high end lab scales are in see through boxes, some wont work if the doors are not closed. Anyway great scale.
