HORNADY - Hornady Lock-N-Load Powder Measure

My first experience with a powder measure was with a Redding 3 BR. It required far too much effort to cut extruded powder and the exterior finish was rough. As I searched for a different measure, I read several reviews and got several recommendations on the Hornady Lock-N-Load Measure, so I took a chance. I received the measure yesterday and was very pleased with it. The finish is far better than what was on my Redding, the measure is heavy and extremely well-built. Hornady has an excellent video on YouTube that details how to disassemble, degrease, lube and reassemble the measure prior to use. It takes all of 15 minutes and I do suggest you purchase the Hornady One Shot Cleaner/Lube as the video suggests. After the measure was cleaned and lubed, I loaded the hopper with almost one pound of IMR4064. The Hornady required minimal effort to cut the extruded powder and it wasn't finicky about my technique to throw an accurate charge with a difficult powder. I highly recommend this measure.

Very pleased with the quality of this item, very robust materials and construction. Is very accurate (0.3 gr spread) with spherical powders. Still having difficulty however with flake and extruded powders (0.7 gr spread), although I do not see that the design is to cause as much as the nature of those materials. I will be weighing every charge on those unless I find a technique that improves the consistency. Will be adding the pistol rotor soon and am hoping that will allow small amounts of flake powder to drop better. None of the powders stick or jam, although the extruded powder is frequently cut. My unit came with a powder baffle as well, I did not see that in the descriptions and was pleased to get it. Adjusts pretty quickly but I still throw and weigh a number of charges to make sure that the odd one or two heaviest charges are not over what I want. Absolutely recommend using the Hornady "One-Shot" gun cleaner and lube that Hornady uses in their video to clean and lube before use. Glad I found that cleaner to be available, I think it will work awesome on my firearms as well. Very happy with this purchase.

Powder hopper was cracked when I received it, no damage to the box it was shipped in and no damage to the powder measure box the crack wasn’t apparent as the crack side was down, called Hornady when I received it and they said a a courtesy they would a new one.
