What is the REDDING - BR-30 Comp Measure?

The Competition Model BR-30 Powder Measure is truly a competition model with some very special features. One of these features (the drum and micrometer) limits the overall charging range from a low of 10 grains (dependent upon powder density) to a maximum of approximately 50 grains. If you are a serious competitive shooter and your loading requirements are generally between 10 and 50 grains, this is certainly the measure to choose. This measure uses all of the competition proven features of the Match-Grade Model 3BR. To acheive the most uniform powder metering possible for Benchrest Competition, at a targeted charge weight of approximately 30 grains, (hence the name BR-30) an entirely new drum and metering unit was created. The diameter of the metering cavity was reduced and the metering plunger was given a unique hemespherical or "cup" shape. This shape creates a powder cavity that resembles the bottom of a test tube to alleviate irregular powder settling and to enhance charge to charge uniformity. A special operating handle was also created for this model. It's a rotating handle, slightly heavier to help you maintain a more uniform stroke.

Great equipment
This is a great pice of equipment I set up for many different rounds and powders. I will say some powers run through better that others but are accurate just the same. I do run about 20 pulls of what ever powder Im using through it before I start my adjustments and if you keep a log you will find the you can just dial it in pull 20 times and your right where you want to be, In short I have one for my riffle loads and one for my pistol loads & have been using them for three years now. You will enjoy using this powder drop and if not let me know I buy it off you! for a 40 % savings of corse. Enjoy and safe shooting!

Spot on accuracy and easy to use
My son the gunsmith got this for me for Christmas three years ago and I've used it ever since on my T-7 Redding turret press. Mounting it on the press was no problem, and I can really crank out the ammo...which was his ulterior motive, so I can keep him supplied! The pistol insert is spot-on accurate, and it makes me smile to move it 10 clicks to get exactly 1 grain more or less powder. I try to use ball powders for easy flow, but it works fine on stick powders like Varget. I load a lot of 44-40 with Trail Boss, which will bridge if you're not careful, but a couple of taps of the handle usually drops it. I'm careful to check each round for a full load before seating the bullet over Trail Boss, however. Check the set screws from time to time so they stay tight, and you'll find that weighing the charge every 5 or 10 rounds will give you a lot of confidence in this fine device.

Consistent-Repeatable
I have had this measure for many years and am still amazed with how accurate, consistent and how repeatable the settings are. It is made in a very sturdy manner. The only plastic is the hopper and the hopper lid. Everything else is precision machined metal. This measure has outperformed my other measures and will outlast them too. It throws accurate loads very quickly. I have it installed on a turret press and also mount it on my reloading bench when using my single stage press. I load .38 super through .50 BMG with it. I do not hesitate to recommend this product to anyone looking for a well made, fast and accurate throwing powder measure.

BR-30 Review
I have just purchased a BR-30 powder thrower to replace the old thrower that I have been using. It performs very well with fine powders but still leaves a little to be desired with course log powders. I have found that "locking" the micrometer is essential to prevent changes. It does allow fine adjustments and these work very well with many powders. I would recommend this thrower as a medium priced quality thrower. It is easy to duplicate different loads for different cases.

I wish this measure was more consistent
I've been working up some special loads for my R700, blueprinted 308 rifle. I decided to trickle to the final weight, using IMR 4895 propellent. My nominal load was 40.7 grains. I got drops from 40.1 to 41 over the course of fifty rounds. This is just not acceptable. Yes, there are propellents that will meter better, but IMR 4895 is what I have. I am astounded by the variation in the dropped load?
