What is the STARLINE, INC - 38-40 Winchester Brass 100/Bag?

Originally a black powder cartridge, this is basically a .44-40 necked down to accept a .401" diameter bullet. The .38-40 brass has a wall thickness of .0062" but is still stiffer and less fragile than other brands which make it much easier to reload.

Starline is a family owned business and prides itself on producing the highest quality brass case available. With a production process focused on quality not quantity, Starline makes the finest brass and has for more than 40 years out of their state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Sedalia, MO. Starline prides itself on being the choice of top handgun shooters across all disciplines, with a production process focused on quality not quantity.

Packaged in 100 count bags.

Great Brass
Well, the easy thing would be to say its Starline, of course it is great but Ill add a bit more. Yes, typical Starline quality and it dropped right into the chambers of my revolvers (as many folks know, 38-40 chambers can be problematic, particularly in revolvers) so I just loaded on my Dillon 550 as normal without resizing . I have loaded the same 50 cases 7 or 8 times now and have not lost any to cracking. Have used jacketed, plated and cast bullets with equal success which indicates proper neck thickness, which again is not always the case with 38-40 or 44-40 brass. In short, great product.

38 40 Very thin walls easily collapse on bullet push in. One oout of 5 crushes - use LOTS of case lube. Used 6 grains of unique and with my 1882 winchester 20 inch was hitting 6" group iron sights standing at 25 yards - not bad eh? So I really like all this set up. I also necked down 44 magnum cases which are readily availbe. They chamber with some pushing in the old winnie, having pretty thick walls. They work GREAT! However I found it best to increase to 8.6 grains of unique. Group was similar.
