Flat checkered w/lanyard loop mainspring

Replaced mainspring a standard housing with this one so I could have a lanyard loop.

Extremely pleased with this MSH

March 2019. Excellent fit in Colt Gov model. Love the loop and the checkering is very well done. Finish is great. This is my pick for a MSH from now on.

Housing Worked Well

Bought this for my RIA M1911A1 clone. No fit problems and it installed perfectly (at least for me, YMMV). I didn't notice at first but yes, this is the housing *only* and you have to reuse the spring parts from your other housing (which is easy once you realize you need to do that). I also had to do an internet search to figure out how to reinstall the sear spring correctly, but was very easy once I knew the steps. It REALLY improved the feel of the gun in the hand over the original flat housing and looks much better too.

Fit perfectly

I bought this for my High Standard GI 1911 .45. It fit the weapon perfectly and looks fantastic. Installation was a breeze. Just note that this is just the housing, you will need to move your mainspring and retaining pin over from the old unit.

Doesn't fit properly on Colt 1991 Gov

The Mainspring housing is nice quality and the checkering is quite good, but it does not fit properly on a Colt 1991 Government. While the housing fits up with no problem, the housing backing is actually sunken below the frame leaving a gap on the sides. May fit other Government-style frames, but not the Colt 1991.

Poor quality

I have given these a try TWO separate times and have been so disappointed each time that both were ultimately returned. Something must have changed with S&A's quality control cause I keep finding major flaws. My second one had two large and obvious burrs in the front that prevented it from sliding all the way into the gun. Even after filing those off, the rails appeared to be slightly out of spec as the housing appeared a bit "sunken in" as others have previous stated. Moreover, there were burrs left in the MSH pin channel that had to be removed. After finally managing to get the housing on I discovered that it was preventing the grip safety from coming out far enough to fully retract my Kimber's Swartz safety rod in the frame.

Poor Workmanship:

Bought this for a restoration. Looks nice, too wide to fit a standard Colt frame without fitting. Took this with me to a Colt 1911 Armorer's Course in Murrieta, California in June of 2009. We tried to use it on a fellow officer's pistol and discovered the mainspring pin hole was drilled at an angle. There is no way I can fix it. Another part that costs more to send back than the postage...
