Compact and functional
I knew what I was buying when I ordered several of these kits. No pouch- I bought them elsewhere- so no complaints there. I knew also that threads on civilian cleaning components would not be compatible with mil components.. I bought several Pro-Shot thread adapters.. I went to all this trouble because this kit is compact, light weight and easily transportable. It fits the buttstock of an A2 or the ALICE pouch and USA made.
Excellent Product
Works as advertised. Puts one of the great features that originally came with the AR-15/M16 back into your rifle. Love the fact it doesn't have Velcro on it that becomes useless if you get CLP on it. I use disposable Velcro battery straps from my Remote Control hobby to tighten things up as you can get a large roll of that stuff for 5 bucks. Turkey Ties work well also to keep things tight. This kit fits well into my UTG Pro buttstock. T-Handle is an improvement over military issue cleaning rods I had. Price was competitive with other sellers online. High quality bag to stow away your gear. I like the tactical black over the olive drab versions. I'm quite pleased with this kit as I know how handy it comes in when on the range or in the field as a Marine Veteran. People with those cheesy collapsible buttstocks flock to ya when they get in a jam though. I highly recommend this product or one comparable.
OWN and AR 15? You Need This Kit!
Picked this up just because it was an official Kit. Now I know why. Not only will it clean your AR but it will get you out of a JAM. It only took one trip to the range with a stuck shell that I was glad to have the solid steel rod in my bag to clear the bore. It was cleared in seconds. The steel rod itself is excellent. I haven't found anything easier to use to brush and clean the breech of the AR15 than using teh specific chamber brush with the special swivel locking handle on the steel rod. Lock the rod in place and put another join in to make a "T" and you quickly brush the carbon away. Turn it back to swivel and attach the eye and patch and swab the barrel. It has everything you need for your AR 15. Even if you have a favorite cleaning kit, or use another system, you owe it to yourself, and your AR to give this kit a try.
Not a mil surplus kit
It works well as long as you don't mix with military issue components which are getting harder to find all the time.
Not compatable with military kits
This kit is functional. It works just the same as an issued kit but I discovered that the rods do not work on an issued military kit. The eyelets, brushes and the thread adapter are interchangeable but the rods themselves wouldn't screw onto my military issue rods and I could not screw my military issue rods into them. It looks like the diameter of the rod after the male threads were cut is too large to go into the female mil rod. The female ends seem to have a little lip/rim that keeps my mil rods from being able to be inserted. I didn't put a micrometer on it but I could see that it looked like there wasn't enough clearance. I have 4 original cleaning kits that came with my Tavors and a kit that came with my FS2000. These 5 kits were all new & unused although they have been in storage for years. I also had 2 military kits left over from the 8635 days that I was a soldier. I tested each of these 7 kits. All of them work with my mil stuff and with each other but not with the ones I bought from Brownells. I could get some of the Brownells rods to partially screw in, less than a full turn but they were not functional when mixed. The Brownells cleaning kits are great if you don't have any rods from a military kit. They work well enough that I gave them to my young grandsons to clean their rifles which is the reason I bought them. I would have given them a 5 star if it wasn't for the issues I described. Other than that, they seem to function as well as the mil kits.

False advertising? No storage pouch.
I ordered this specifically to put it in the buttstock of an m-16. Instead of getting a pouch to stow it properly, it included a brownells zip-lock baggy that the cleaning rods have already punctured. Without a bag, the cleaning supplies bang around like a maraca in my stock. Quite noisy. Now I need to order a pouch seperately to stow my gear, or make one out of an old pair of jeans. Thanks for the buttstock noisemaker conversion. Cleaning supplies are fine. Standard GI stuff. Just miffed about the pouch.
Defective T-handle makes this useless
Would be a good basic kit except the opening in the T-handle for the rod section doesn't actually fit a rod section, rendering the T-handle useless for cleaning the chamber. (For those unfamiliar with GI cleaning kits, the T-handle has a circular hole at the top so you can thread a rod section through, enabling you to twist the T-handle section with the chamber brush attached, allowing you to clean the chamber.) Replaced with the basic Brownells kit, which works fine, and comes with a nicer pouch that you can close with velcro.
