Perfect for my Build
Perfect for building my "backpack gun". Matched it with a Palmetto State AR-15 pistol build kit and went together easily. Smooth hinge, easy release and latch mechanism. Time will tell on the durability of the hinge, but seems stout.
great receiver especially since it folds
this is a very well made receiver. i was very impressed by the fit. and a very overlooked aspect is its light weight. I love the law tactical (I have 3) but it definitely adds weight to your weapon when installed. Even fully assembled this receiver is still very light weight. I already plan on buying one or two more.
17 Designs folding receiver
Allows for a much larger AR-15 style rifle build to be more compact for transportation or storage. My long range 6mm ARC Rifle and a heavy barreled 6.5 Grendel are much easier to take to the range but snap solidly into place for use. I couldn't be happier!
Great Product
This is my second 17 Design IFLR receiver. I truly enjoy my builds using this receiver. Their service is exceptional and the product works as advertised. I would recommend this to anyone wanting to use a folding stock to make their AR more compact.
Works well with the BRN-180 upper
Assembled easily, no complaints. Nice finish and matches well with the BRN-180 finish. Take down pins fit through the upper tight, but this is identical to the fit of the 180 upper on another standard AR lower. I have stayed away from folding lowers for the AR but this is perfect for the 180 as it uses no buffer/spring in the tube!
I'm very pleased with this lower
I am very happy with this lower. I wanted a compact AR pistol that I could take in a backpack, so with this folder, the Pantheon arms DOLAS take-down barrel and FAB folding grip this was just what I wanted. It easily stores in a backpack. I also have guns built on the Sylvian Arms and LAW Tactical hinges, but this all-in-one design is superior to both. There were a few odd things like the rear take-down pin spring and detent being moved and the issues other site with the buffer detent, but once you look at them they are easy to work around. One note on the finish. The finish is the typical solid black anodized. The pictures on Brownells make it looked stone-washed or something. The actual product has a nice finish.
Great product, Fantastic Service
I built a 7.5" pistol using this lower. It now fits in a small backpack that I keep in my vehicle. It arrived with no receiver tensioning screw. Also, because of the shorter barrel I contacted the manufacturer to see if they had a heavy buffer available for this unit. They promptly sent me both with no charge. The build shoots great and I have had no issues of any kind with it.
Very nice but not mil spec
Sweet lower receiver but if you are going to use with the Fostech Echo trigger beware. The buffer tube mounting hole/receiver extension hole that the buffer tube screws in to is much narrower than mil spec, especially on the internal side of the hole. This tighter tolerance made it extremely difficult to close the receiver with the echo trigger in the gun. The trigger lock bar gets in the way (as usual). I had to use a knife while holding the trigger and closing the receivers to hold the lock bar forward then pull back slightly on the bolt.... an extra hand or two will help a lot. The folding mechanism is sturdy and you can tell they drifted away from mil spec in order to strengthen the design.
Phenomenal product.
First of all, I'm honestly shocked that this design of folding lower isn't considered the industry standard for folding AR's. Up until now, the LAW Tactical folder has been the benchmark for folding AR's, but this is markedly better. When I first purchased the lower, I was concerned that the integral style of folding device could lead to fragility. On the contrary! It's the beefiest folding mechanism I've seen on a lower, including the LAW, and I honestly don't see a scenario that would break this device that wouldn't also break a LAW. The one issue I ran into, that was noted by other reviewers, was the buffer retainer channel depth. I reached out to 17 Design directly, and they were very helpful in promptly sending me a new retainer pin and buffer, and the problem was solved. I'm now at around 2,500 rounds through the rifle I built with this lower, and it's running just as well as the first day I took it to the range. It's bounced around in the passenger seat of a truck almost daily, been dropped off of a tailgate onto concrete, dragged and clunked around barricades and tossed in range barrels, and shown zero signs of abuse. If you're on the fence about this thing, just get one. At around the same price as some folding adapters alone, there's nothing to lose. You won't be disappointed.
Bought on a whim, thrilled so far.
So I didn't really "need" it but on a whim I ordered one. As soon as it arrived I was thrilled about the fit and finish. Installing the parts was awesome. Only hiccup I had was the Geissele Maritime bolt catch will install but not operate based on the dimensions/surface area. I'll get over it, I don't need to install it on every AR (but would like to). The buffer retainer was easy, I opened the bottom and dropped it in from underneath, added the spring and reinstalled, first attempt to thread under some tension may have taken a bit of the finish, but that was on me. Buffer extension seems to be getting some external wear from the BCM bolt carrier I was using. Not a lot of rounds out of it yet but unless it starts cutting into the metal I could care less. Odds are good I will SBR it, might also just put it on a longer upper and see how it fits in my Eberlestock pack folded. No rush.. Geissele trigger installed easily and so did the rest of the parts.
