MARITIME BOLT CATCH FOR AR-15 Reviews & Ratings

GEISSELE MARITIME BOLT CATCH FOR AR-15

The Geissele® Maritime Bolt Catch is designed with the warfighter in mind and will work with any lower receiver designed to accept a mil-spec M16/M4 Carbine bolt catch. The increased surface area promotes ease of function when locking back the bolt or releasing the bolt after a magazine change. In addition, the extended controls add an increased functionality for left handed shooters who no longer have to break their grip to manipulate the bolt catch.

Left handed shooters can easily reach the controls using the index finger of their left hand making magazine changes and locking the bolt back much more fast and efficient. Aggressive checkering covers the surface of the levers giving the Geissele® Maritime Bolt Catch a textured surface that enables positive feedback to the shooters hand when being used with gloves or at night.

Please Note: A mil-spec bolt catch spring and plunger are required for assembly and are NOT included. If the Maritime Bolt Catch is replacing an existing mil-spec bolt catch, please use care when disassembling the component from your lower receiver as you will need these parts to install the Maritime Bolt Catch.

Compatibility with billet AR-15 lower receivers is unknown. Please also note that the extended controls of the Geissele Maritime Bolt Catch will partially cover the pin hole for the hammer, a smaller punch may be required to push the hammer pin out of the receiver from the left side, and the hammer pin should only be installed from the right side of the receiver.

…you must acquit!
This upgrade did not work on my APF lower. Not sure if it was the lower or the product. It fit and installed properly but would not hold the bolt either with an empty magazine or while actively pressing the catch. Online, I found few people who had issues with it. It may be a particular issue to my lower. However, the product is well built and looks excellent. For a less than $20 upgrade, it would’ve been great.

Check fitment
If you are using this on any AR lower other than a standard plain milspec forged lower, double and triple check to make sure you have the clearance to make this bolt catch work. Even then, I expect it to be tight. I tried installing this on my BRN retro lower and the lower portion of the bolt catch was binding against the receiver extrusion for the roll pin. I am still going to use this for the build and have filed off the back to give it clearance. On the positive side, this puts all the controls within reach of my left (dominant hand) and I prefer the geometry to other extended bolt catches I have tried. I really do hope this bolt catch holds up. I would recommend this to other left handed shooters on the condition they should expect to have to do some filing and grinding to make it fit their rifle.

Mixed Bag
Used for an AR build and could not get it mounted for the life of me. Took it to my LGS and they measured it and turned out that the mounting hole for the pin was too small. They drilled it out and it went in fine. Also, the bottom paddle partially blocks one of the trigger pin holes which seems like a design oversight. Once installed it has worked flawlessly.

Tight fit
Install was a bit tricky. Installed pin and bolt catch was stuck and had minimal movement. Looks cool and cycles the bolt like it should. I might remove it and file down the back side a little for better figment.

Not a great with an ambi mag release
The top half is awesome, the bottom half is to big and close to an ambi mag release. I love the stippling. Doesn't work well with my gun.

Meh
Looks cool, large surface for engagement but needs fitting to install. The roll pin hole was too small and wouldnt allow for proper function or installation. Tried to ream the hole but found the part extremely hard and resistant to file.
