Barrel nut
I have used several of these and I have had absolutely no problems. A terrific item designed for what it is.
The Best
Used several of the Core 15 barrel nuts and all have been flawless. Compatible with Magpul and Midwest Industries drop-in hand guards. Installs with standard barrel nut wrench. Be sure to have shims to make timing easier.
It is stressproof
I don't have any experience with this product before, so I figured I'll give it a try. I am currently building an AR upper. I have used other barrel nut by other manufacturer and this product rocks. It has the same dimension as other barrel nut on the market but what sets it apart from the other is how tough this one is. I have place others and upon torqueing to about 50ftlbs, the teeth will break. But not this one. So far this nut can handle it. I have not tried torqueing it to maximum torque as I had mine torque to about 40ftlbs and my gas tube is in perfect alignment. Mission accomplished. What else can I say. BTW this is compatible with Samson's Evolution handguard as well. Heed their warning, this is not compatible with Troy handrails. Great product. Kudos to Brownells fast shipping too.
Great Nut - Doesn't fit Troy Alpha
I ordered this in a pinch because the barrel nut I normally use was out of stock. The finish was fantastic, threads very clean and well cut, and initially I considered making THIS my standard barrel nut for future builds. Unfortunately, the Core nut is a bit oversized, as such, it doesn't fit into the machined grooves of the Troy Alpha Rails. I found out just how tough their finish and materials are by filing/sanding/polishing to fit this barrel nut into the Troy handguards - I was equally frustrated and impressed, the finish was very durable. I would venture that there are several models of handguard that rely upon a standard barrel nut that this would not work for, so be aware of that before buying. Overall, very good barrel nut - just won't work for my application.
Will not buy again
The folks who make this barrel nut need to realize that now a days most AR15 owners use a Rail. This Barrel nut will not work with KAC RAS because the underneath where the RAS tensioner locks in it doesn't have any space to fit. So if you have intentions on using a RAS of any kind don't but it. I'm in to 5 of these and now stuck with them. Do Not Purchase till they get their machining right on this...
Worst Barrel Nut
This product is made "out of spec", DO NOT BUY! I wish I could give it a negative star. I've built multiple ARs for myself and family and this is the most cursing I've done trying to build one. I should have had a clue when my Combo Tool would not index properly on it, but I thought the barrel might not let it get all the way on (Daniel Defense 18" S2W). That was not the case, I've worked with a lot of DD parts and their stuff is top notch. Then I could not get it to index the gas tube without over torquing it. Finally when I tried to install Magpul MOE Mid-Length hand guards, they would not clamp together at the delta ring. Will be buying a better one to replace it.
Nice Part But didn't Work
This barrel nut will NOT work with Troy hand guards. Does not work with standard barrel nut wrench. I also had two ears break off when I removed it to put a factory nut on. I will return for credit both of them.... I put on average 30 uppers together a year and this is bad. C.O.R.E 15 usually has good products but this is not an SPEC Nut.
