Time will tell.
Not sure what optic I want to mount so I have not tested it yet. Perfect fit on receiver and stock. Looks great but I will not say anything else until tested.
Accuracy problems and resolution
Shooting 2 other Ruger 10/22s for more than 50 years I decided to custom build a heavy barrel version for informal target shooting and chose this ER Shaw blued barrel for the project. The receiver is a stripped Ruger that I got from Gun Broker and except for the stock the rest are Ruger parts, including their BX-25 trigger (which is very nice at 2 #). The stock is a Magpul Hunter X-22 and the scope is a Weaver T-10 (10x) in Burris Signature 22 rings. Everything went together very nicely, but the accuracy was extremely poor and the POI was a foot low, all at 25 yards. I used 4 different brands of LR ammo (Federal 550 Value Pack #750, CCI Blazer 525 Value Pack #10022, Winchester 555 pack #22LR555HP and Norma TAC-22). At 25 yards 10-shot groups ranged from 2 to over 7, with some evidence of slight keyholing for some of the shots. After numerous checks and inspections of the rifle (including very helpful phone discussions with Shaw, Brownells and Magpul), and installing another proven scope nothing changed. I returned the barrel to Brownells and exchanged it for another one. Im very happy to report that with the T-10 and same ammo as above accuracy is immensely improved, now running around 1 for 10 shots and the POI moving way up. The last 10 of Tac-22 was (easily covered with a dime). Clearly the new barrel solved the POI and accuracy issues, but I cant explain why the first barrel was so bad. For the price Im very pleased and will start to test at 50 and 100 yards, including trying target grade ammo. Fit and finish is very nice, but only 3 stars because the first barrel was so bad.
