Disappointed
Bought these to change the rear sight blade on my S&W Model 19. Both bent and then broke while trying to remove the nut. Finally out of frustration I just took the gun toa gun smith!
Spanner
Honestly, I didn't even need these. I replaced the rear sight blade on my S&W 686 and thought I'd need this special tool. The spanner didn't even fit the slots on the nut. Not to worry though, this nut spanner is not even needed to complete the job.
Not good, but worked.
Bought this to replace a model 48 rear sight. As soon as I tried to turn the nut the prongs bent immediately. After that it was useless. I took a pair of wire cutters cut down most of it. Took a chainsaw triangular file and reshaped the notch in the bit. Filed the sides to make it a little thinner and worked fine. Shouldnt have to do this. The prongs need to be a lot shorter to begin with. At least it gave me something to work with. Would only recommend if your willing to modify the tool.
Not great
The tool was of no practical use. The prongs did not fit the retaining nut on the sight. The diameter was too large.
Not really the right tool for the job
This is not the right tool for the Smith and Wesson revolver rear sight spanner nut. The blade tips do NOT fully seat into the spanner nut slots because the tips are too thick. Yes, it can be made to work. Also, the legs are much too long, making the tool more fragile than it needs to be. But, since Smith and Wesson no longer offers the correct tool to the public, I guess this is the best we can get. Good luck not ruining the spanner nut or breaking the spanner tool.
Fragile aint no joke
There's 2 in the pack, one was slightly bent, tried to straighten it and it broke with almost no effort. Ran the new screw through the sight to check the fit and the screw sheared. So I'm ordering a new sight, screw, and another pair of these little wrenches so I have 3 tries to get it right. I would try something else but there isn't anything else.
