New type is poor quality, but fixable.
I have 40 of these among three benches around the shop. I keep 4-6 with the correct bits installed for the gun types I work on most frequently. I recently ordered 16 more for metric hex tips. They are of significantly inferior quality to the ones I had ordered previously. 1.) the spring clip is of a smaller diameter and is insufficient for retaining a bit. A slight jolt and it falls out. 2.) the recess for the spring clip is much larger than the spring, allowing it to cant to the side. This contributes to it's poor grip.. It is important to me that my screwdriver handles be non-magnetic, and I really wanted these to work. To the best of my knowledge, Brownells is the only source for these clip-tips. Rather than return them, I searched for a replacement spring clip. I found that a FAL/L1A1 gas plug plunger spring works. Slit the spring lengthwise with a Dremel cut-off wheel and discard the two flattened coils. Bend the coil spring section slightly to bring the two tips into alignment and force over a tapered mandrel to expand it slightly. As is (about 7/8 of a circle), it will grip so tightly as to need pliers to remove the tip. Shortening the C to 3/4 of a circle is a little stronger than the old style handle and my preference. Shorten to 2/3 of a circle is equivalent to the old style. The old spring, being flimsy, will just pop out of the handle with a dental pick. Insert the one end of the new spring into the handle and snap in place with a punch or screwdriver tip. This used to be a good product. This new clip tip is nearly useless unless the user replaces the flimsy spring clip with a heavier one. Brownells needs to do a better job of monitoring the quality control of its vendors.
