This tools sucks!
I have bought these in the past. They used to work well. This new one has a much shorter shaft. The plastic handle hits the lug for the recoil spring and the hex is no longer flush on the fastener, rounding off the hex head. I called Brownells, the tech suggested grinding off the bolt that holds the sight. Come on! Make a tool that works!
Do not buy this it does not work
The tool end is too short and the plastic tool handle interferes with the slide nose ring. It is not long enough to engage the front sight screw. I can't believe Brownell's sells this.
Hex portion too small
I bought this tool because I install front sights frequently, but it won't work at all. The hex is to small to fit the screw head. I can't use this tool, so I will be returning it.
Avoid this tool
Simply doesn't fit the screw head. The diameter of the tool is a bit too small to fit the screw. Tried on more than one front sight and all had the same issue. The metal also seems pretty soft so not sure if it could be filed/modified to fit without destroying it. However, it should work out of the box and customers shouldn't have to modify the tool to make it work.
disappointment
immediately stripped out, wasted my money.
Doesn't hold up
Just doesn't hold up. It's steel but could not get it magnetized for holding screws in place. Then under normal use it stripped out tightening screws for night sights. If all you use it for is plastic sights it might be useful. Otherwise not good for daily serious use.
weak!
The handle is a good idea the material of the tool is weak if it was hard steal it would make this tool the best on the market... Even after a little heat from a heat gun after using the tool a few times it loose's it's value and starts to deform... Weak material not worth the money.... Sorry Brownells your tools are good but not this one... Pull it off the shelf...
Great idea, poor execution
I had high expectations for this tool and it did nothing but disappoint. The tip is too shallow to get a good purchase on the Glock front sight screw. (especially those that have had some Loctite applied) This thing tends to either round screw heads or strip itself out. It's the perfect fit for those long slide Glocks, like the 34/35 where you need to go through the hole in the slide (most screw driver versions won't fit without modification). The addition of a magnet would also be appreciated to help hold the front sight screw.
Junk
They need to go back and remake this tool. The concepts great with the screwdriver handle, but cant get proper grip on sight screw without stripping the tool. Didn't even get through one job with it.
Length of shaft is too short. Useless.
I should have listened to the previous reviewers. The shaft is too short so the handle interferes with the muzzle end of the slide, preventing the tool from meeting the screw perpendicularly. It is clear no one from the company actually tried to use this tool before releasing it for sale. I have usually had good luck with Brownells tools, but this one is worthless to me.
