AR-15 M16 A1 LOWER RECEIVER Reviews & Ratings

Designed in conjunction with Nodak Spud, the BRN-16A1 Lower Receiver matches the features of the original M16A1 Receiver. Perfect for a “Retro” or reproduction build, these lowers precisely mirror the original profile. Features specific to the BRN-16A1 Lower Receiver are the proper M16A1 front takedown lug profile, and profile surrounding the receiver extension. Most forged lower receivers produced today feature “A2” profiles, which are incorrect for M16A1 reproduction builds. The lower starts off as a 7075 T6 aluminum forging, then is machined to mil-spec dimensions. Once machined, the lower is finished with a matte black hard anodized finish. This finish matches modern uppers found on the market today, as well as the Brownells M16A1 Upper Receiver sold separately. Standard AR-15 components will work perfectly with this lower. Simple, engraved markings on the lower include:

Looks good; so-so function

Used for MK12 Mod0 clone build. Excellent replica for an A1 receiver. But unfortunately (just like every Brownells lower Ive dealt with) its a little sloppy. Just go ahead and plan on buying oversized receiver pins and an accuwedge. The good news is that using an accuwedge will probably be clone correct for most of your builds ;-) Also the internal pocket is not cut large to use a drop in trigger (Timney, CMC, etc). That is prolly true to original, but still a little annoying. I also wish theyd mark the receiver safe-semi-auto. But thats a small thing.

Not gray

The receiver is black, not gray. So I have to cancel a backorder to get a black A1 upper now. At least the A1 uppers in black are in stock and the customer service was fast about the cancellation. You can see a lower in black. They're both Aero products so I imagine they get their anodizing done the same way and they are identical in color to the naked eye.

Not gray......

The color is just strange. When oiled it has a dark green hue that gets worse in the sunlight. The machining etc is quite good and mechanically it is fine..... but the color isn't right. I will probably have to refinish. It just looks green........

beware- safety markings on both sides

I bought a few of these several weeks ago. I too was discouraged to find the safety markings on both sides of the receivers. This is not historically accurate for an "A1" / retro lower. Now a month later, these are being offered for sale as "blems". Fortunately my customers have purchased all but one. However it will be difficult the sell remaining lower I have in inventory and I don't want to use it with a retro carbine project I am building for a customer.
