BRN-22 STRIPPED RECEIVER FOR RUGER® 10/22®

BRN-22 STRIPPED RECEIVER FOR RUGER® 10/22® Reviews & Ratings

The Brownells BRN-22 Receiver is ready to be the foundation of your custom rimfire rifle build. Each BRN-22 receiver is precision-machined from 6061 aluminum billet to exacting tolerances. Why machined instead of forged, like most commercial receivers? All you need to do is look inside at the smooth, clean interior to realize that a machined receiver can be held to much tighter tolerances for a precise fit with other parts. After machining, BRN-22 receivers get a tough matte black Type 2 hardcoat anodized finish (like the finishes found on many AR-15 receivers). There’s even a pre-drilled cleaning rod hole at the rear of each Brownells BRN-22 receiver for easy cleaning of the bore from the chamber, the PROPER way to prevent a cleaning rod from damage to the muzzle crown that can compromise accuracy.

  • Stripped receiver ONLY
  • Comes with V block and screws
  • Machined from high-grade 6061 T6 aluminum billet
  • Durable matte black hardcoat anodized finish or clear anodized finish
  • Compatible with OEM Ruger® 10/22® components
  • Cleaning rod access hole at rear
  • Barrel and receiver sold separately

Which 10/22 Bolt Is Right for You?

A quick guide to choosing the right 10/22® bolt for your specific build.

The Railed BRN-22R has an integral 0 MOA Picatinny top rail for extra security and versatility in scope mounting. The Smooth version has mounting holes that will work with standard Ruger® 10/22® scope rails.

Due to varying dimensions in aftermarket and some older factory aluminum trigger housings, fitting may be required.

The BRN-22 receivers are designed to work in conjunction with Ruger® 10/22® OEM bolts, and as such may not work with all aftermarket bolts.

Vvery good product
Finish is great. Coating a little thick 8n spots and required fitting. Recommend this product .

Appears good.
Receiver is matte and had what appeared to be light scratches on top. No matter as I topped it with a rail. Also, I feel it should come with cross pins instead of buying separately.

BRN 22 Receiver
Great improvement over Ruger receiver. Seems very nice quality. As others have stated, some fitting was required. Functioned flawlessly on first trip to range.

Ruger clone receiver
In order to get the bolt enough clearance to be able to seat the operating rod, I had to do some filing on the inside of the receiver. This is unacceptable to me as I was using a Ruger factory bolt assembly, not one of the after market ones out there that as I understand may need fitting as they may not be quite the same spec as a factory bolt.

Good value, perfect fit
Aftermarket barrel, trigger, old, pins, and polymer recoil buffer all fit perfectly in this receiver. I’m not sure what the benefit of the “ cleaning” hole in the rear of the receiver is, since you have to disassemble everything except the barrel to actually use it. Otherwise, no complaints.

Great products but...
No pins included, not mentioned these need to be ordered. Maybe you should just include the two pins with the upper. Make sure you mention in the video that the pins are not included. Great project otherwise, thanks.

Be sure to choose the right model for you
Machining looks great, anodizing was nice and uniform. No problems with fitment of any parts. I chose the railed model thinking it would be easier with scope mounting, and it was fine for that, but the flat pic rail isnt ideal for the 22LR. I sighted in at a 50yd zero and had no issues with that but my scope has 86MOA total adjustment in elevation and after getting zeroed Im left with only 18MOA before it tops out. What I should have done was get the smooth top model and then add a 30 or 40 MOA scope rail. That would have given me plenty of my elevation adjustment in my scope. Just something to think about if you're building a BRN22 for a long range or precision type of rifle.

Might need some attention
It's very difficult to get the bolt installed in this receiver due to tight tolerances. Brownells addresses this in one of their videos. It's still a pain but it will install. The finish on the receiver is much like parkerizing. And it is the same inside the receiver. I did some polishing with a rotary tool and some polishing compound. This and a light coating of oil helped the bolt to move a little more freely. I'm hoping this will improve my not so satisfactory first trip with it to the range. On that trip, it had multiple misfires, failure to feed, failure to eject, stove piping, etc. Bottom line, "some fitting may be necessary". If I can get this thing to perform, it will be worth the trouble since the price is a lot better than most other receivers available for the 10 22. If it continues to give me fits......

Nice receiver
Other than a little filing to get an aftermarket bolt installed, this is a good replacement for the factory unit.

Tolerances are tight
Seems like a really good deal but its a really tight fit and theres no stock screw included so I have to order a new one and the bolt buffer hole was a really tight fit so Im in a quandary wether to make the hole a little bigger or but another buffer that fits better.
