Scattered Performance
I am a bit confused to be honest, this bullet has both turned in some of the worst and best groups I have ever seen out of my mk12 clone. .3 inch, 5 shot group at 100 yards using Lake city brass and 23 grains of IMR 8208. After testing with 3 different powders and over 100 rounds down range I have come to conclusion their is something changing on the projectile in flight between my barrel and the target. This became more evident as the bullet approached 2800 FPS, the group opened to an astounding 4-5." This would be consistent with what I have read others experiencing; one individual was claiming the tips are melting in flight and this would certainly explain the varied performance. They are consistent in weight and more consistent in length then its larger 77 grain cousin however unlike the 77 grain SMK, I am getting a radically mixed results generally anywhere from 1-2 inches with most falling closer to the latter. This is unacceptable for a target bullet out of a match quality rifle fired off of a led sled. I am sure that sierra will iron out the major wrinkles and maybe use a more durable polymer as its tip since this is essentially a new round.
