625 S&W and Vortex Venom
This is best way to add a red dot to your revolver . Only be careful opening the package with the hardware .. the pins for the mount are very small & easy to loose !
Great mount!
Installed this mount on a S&W 28-3, unlike another reviewer, the mount I received was a perfect fit in the top strap sight channel. In that this revolver is almost 35 years old - I did need to drill & tap the 3 mounting holes in the top strap, I used a medium-sized milling machine to perform that operation. The result is a nice fitting (about as low as possible to the bore), rock-solid mount. I currently have an old Optima 2000 mounted on the gun, but I just may have to spring for a brand-new STS or DeltaPoint. As a word of caution - I would not recommend installing this mount as a DIY project on an older (not factory drilled & tapped) S&W revolver unless you have the proper equipment to do precision drilling & tapping on a revolver frame, this is not a task for a hand-held drill!
Great mount
Have to say I don't know why I waited so long to get this. Great quality, mounting holes were accurate. It keeps the sight at a low profile. Mounted this on a S&W 625-8 with a Burris Fastfire III.
Good adapter
Adapter is sturdy and mounts securely. Fit is a bit imprecise, meaning the installer must hold the adapter in horizontal alignment with the frame while tightening. Thread locker is recommended but not supplied. Holster required some modification to accept the gun after the mount was installed. Overall pleased with the performance with a Vortex optic installed.
Works for Fastfire III, but not perfect
Mounted to my 686-6 plus, the frame mounting fit perfectly. Just remove 1 screw to remove the rear sight and slip the new mount into the grove. When trying to add my Burris Fastfire III I noticed something annoying. The kit came with 4 plastic pins to help keep the red dot stable. Not all pins matched the FF3 holes. The 2 in the front of the plate weren't drilled correctly so the right pin wouldn't match the red dot and was out of alignment with the rear holes. I mounted the red dot using only the 2 rear pins and the 2 red dot mounting screws. Even though I'm using only the 2 rear pins and the mounting screws it seems stable and I'm not having issues with accuracy. I really like how low it sits on the frame and it looks great. I've shot around 400 .357 rounds since mounting without issues. I'm only giving 4 stars because of the inaccurate pin placement. But I wouldn't bother replacing it since it is working well anyway.
Good Mount...BUT!!!
Used this mount to attach a Burris Fastfire to a Smith& Wesson Model 27 that was manufactured in 1974 (27-2)...Isn't much out there to attach a reflex sight to these pistols while keeping the sight low, so this is a good option as the Fastfire bolts directly to this mount...Installation requires removal (1 screw) of the rear pistol sight and this mount is supposed to fit in the recess in its place with the drilling and tapping of 3 new holes (6-48) using the supplied screws and mounting it onto the strap...The machined portion on the mount is several thousands wider the the recess on the pistol and did not fit...I had to mill it to the proper diameter and then it fit into the recess..After done it is a great setup but don't try to mount it unless you have a mill and means to tap straight holes to the precise depth...This may fit other guns without but neither the manufacturers website or Brownells indicates any detailed info on this...A disappointing surprise but no problem for me...However this is not a "ready to mount" system but a good one for the machinist so it got a 4 from me...
Choose MRD carefully
This mount fit my S&W 629 perfectly. It said it fits Delta Point, but it does not fit the Pro model. As a result, I spent over $400 for a red dot that can only be held to the mount by two screws. The four post holes on the Pro are much larger than the holes on the the mount and the tiny plastic pins are useless. I will see about making pins and see if they will align or just buy the Leupold mount that matches the Delta Point Pro
Mounting hole did not line up -
I like how light and clean looking this mount is - but I was very disappointed the the mounting holes did not line up on my 627-5 - just to be sure I checked it on my 625 and the same thing - after I filed about .020 off of the under side at the rear - the let the mount move forward and all 3 holes now lined up - I expect this on imported part, but not on American made item like this is labeled as - It was still worth the work
