SMITH & WESSON SIGHT NUT SPANNER

SMITH & WESSON SIGHT NUT SPANNER Reviews & Ratings

SMITH & WESSON SIGHT NUT SPANNER 2 PACK

MAGNA-TIP®
Bit, made to fit the windage nut that secures the S&W rear sight leaf. To use: Drill out staking, hold nut with Spanner and unscrew the screw. To install: Hold new nut with Spanner and seat screw. Always turn the screw; never the nut. Because it is fragile, and can break if you turn it, the Spanner is not guaranteed against breakage.

SPECIFICATIONS:
  • 2 Hardened Steel MAGNA-TIP Bits
  • Purposely Shaped for S&W Rear Leaf Sight Windage Nut
  • Length: 1-1/4"
  • 1/4" Drive

Follow the Instructions
Follow the provided instructions to the letter. The reason this is a 2-pack is because you WILL break the first one. Do not attempt to turn anything with this tool. And be prepared to purchase a number 38 drill bit when you mess it up. It seems like there could be a way to make these tools at least a bit more sturdy. That said, it does work as intended

TOOL NEEDS MODIFICATION...
I completely agree with Macho Man, the forks bent while attempting to unscrew the sight nut. The tool was useless. Here's My Fix: I cut down the forks almost to the arch, and filed down the sides of the spanner to fit the width of the screw. I filed a bit of metal off he flats of the forks to fit the screw notches. This gave the spanner more backbone making the job much easier...the screw was removed with little effort...the job took about 30 mins. I enjoy making things work...

Completely unneeded
This is completely unneeded. Not to mention the prongs are too thick and needed to be filled down. Just hold the nut with your finger, and tighten screw.

Use of the tool
To remove the old screw you break the screw and buy a new one save the spring and detent. You don't use the tool for removel. The tool is used only to snug the nut on assembly. You then insert a punch in the center to peen it to keep it from loosening up. You may have to modify the tips a little. I will only recommend it to someone that knows what there doing.
