Quick service.
Ordered S & W parts and had them in 4 days. USPS had to do a good job job but Brownell’s had to do a good job getting them to postal service quickly.
S&W sight
I've alway found Brownells to have top quality products and their customer service is exceptional.
Sight Blade Kit
Once upon a time I bought just the sight blade and realized afterward that I need the nut and bolt to complete the replacement. So, I ended up just buying this kit that has everything. The sight blade was a lower profile than my factory S&W 686, but it was still with the adjustment range of the target sights, so I was still able to get it zeroed just fine. Fairly easy install and you don't need the special 2-Pronged spanner wrench to complete the job, I bought them and didn't even use them.
Easy replacement
This made a great improvement to the overall curb appeal to a retired police revolver with a dog eared sight. Mine has a very nice white outline, perhaps better than the original sight. Perhaps S&W saw the other feedback and improved? Anyway, though not totally necessary, the spanner bit and staking tool do make life easier. Measuring the existing sight it a good way to confirm you are ordering the correct replacement. Identify the location of the detent plunger in the side of the screw head prior to removing from sight body so you can contain them, and confirm the nut wont turn on the screw to verify it is fully staked.
Installed on my S&W 617-6
My S&W 617-6 with a 4 inch barrel shot to POA at 10 yards with many types of ammo but rear sight was cranked all the way down. I wanted the option of going lower with the sights. The rear sight, measured with a micrometer, was .146 from the factory. (Not .136 as stated in many sources on the web.) Purchased the S&W .126 white outline rear sight blade kit and installed as shown on the video at Brownells website. I gained several more clicks of downward vertical adjustment. YMMV Functions as if it was installed at the factory.
Factory replacement
Exact factory replacement for my X frame Smith & Wesson. Be very careful when removing the adjustment screw as the spring and plunger will go flying. I searched for 3 days and was not able to find the plunger after the spring launched it across the room.
Excellent Factory Kit
Was ecstatic to find Brownells offered the S&W sight repair kit. I ordered several of these factory S&W kits, the white outline ones are bright, clear and not faint or worn looking at all. The blued ones have a nice smooth blue finish. No trouble at all installing if you have a little mechanical know how and some good tools.
Slides Right In
Easy to install if you have the right tools. The spanner screwdriver is key. I had to grind down a 1mm gap spanner to fit. Every thing fits and works as advertised.
Sight blade not threaded correctly
The sight blade is not fully threaded for the screw which appears to be a somewhat common complaint as of late for this kind of part. The nut and sight screw appear to be ok.
Poorly defined white outline
The one star review has it pretty spot on. This is a factory S&W part. Everything is perfectly fine with it except the white outline looks "worn", it's just poorly done. That is not a fault of Brownells, simply a problem with what S&W is manufacturing today. I ordered two of them and they are identical in appearance. The stock photo from Brownells is fairly accurate. The two I received are just a bit more faint than the one pictured. This review is just confirmation that the other review wasn't a unique situation and you should also expect a similar product.
