Best vise for the money
After paying almost $300 for the Brownells vise and seeing how poorly made it is and the lead screw stripping easily, paying $60 for this is a no brainer. If youre expecting a Wilton or Startett vise for this money, you are delusional. Its a great low cost alternative as long as you know its limits.
Not the same as the Yost
Wasn't expecting multi vise quality at this price, but this looks really rough. My vise needs are infrequent, so I'll keep it, but this is probably the item that will have me making use of the Brownells guarantee.
Observation
Since this vise appears being a defective item, why has Brownells continued selling it. Ironically, I was about to purchase of this vise. The timing is great! Thank you. Semper Fi
Don’t Buy!
Do not waste your money. I bought this vise for my second work bench two years ago as a secondary vise for light work. My experience is the same as others….it broke when putting a stock in the vise with soft jaws. I just now got around to replacing the vise. Save your money and get a Yost or Wilton. I will be buying another Wilton. This broke way too easily and within a year of buying.
Don't waste your money
Had for about a year in my shop before it broke.
Junk
I can almost guarantee this vise will break if you use it more than twice. It broke with me the second time I used it - hand tightening a piece of wood!!! Don't waste your money!!!
Broke second time using it
This appears to be a good small vise, save you money. Mine broke at the hinge point to hold up part of the vise. The little thing under the vise in the picture. Not an easy fix from home. I was aligning the hash marks on a pistol plug and barrel, almost there then it snapped. Why buy something that is gerenteeed to be replaced when it fails to begin with? My bad buy, dont let it be yours.
Keep looking
This is the worst vise I've ever laid my hands on. While doing some simple stock work I had a whole jaw snap off which ofcourse ruined the stock. This vise is made of very low quality metal. DO NOT BUY THIS VISE!!!
vise
Shop fox vise is from China. The metal is soft. It dents when struck with a 2oz hammer. It also chips and the handle bends. Why Brownells sells this vis is beyond me.
Breaks Easily
This product is cast metal and it breaks easily after only a few uses. It broke on the bottom adjustment arm. This is the same place of failure as another customer had mentioned in their 1 star rating. I am a police department range armorer and this item was not abused or used in a manner that exceeded what would be expected of a gunsmith vise. I do NOT recommend this item until they beef up the point of failure or use a forged adjustment arm instead of cast.
