Ruger should offer these as OEM, allows for normal, red dot or scout scopes and you can keep the iron sights on the rifle.

I was gifted this rifle years ago and have never know what to do with it optic wise. It's too accurate to slap some cheesy or under powered optic on that stock rail section and call it good. It's just too far forward for anything practical without running into eye relief issues. Then who wants to remove the rear sight and delete the whole purpose of the platform? So I found this rail, and with a vortex strike eagle & leupold 30mm rings I can say this now my platform of choice. Please ignore the review below keeping this from being a 5 star product. You stripped a screw dude, that's on you. This item is a must
First-rate accessory for the Ruger Scout
This is a quality unit and is almost breathtakingly easy to install...took me 5 minutes. Directions for use and an install kit including screws, allen key and thread locker is included. Should be standard on the Ruger Scout rifle instead of aftermarket. On my rifle, proper ejection was unimpeded, however it will prevent top-loading of the plastic Ruger mags while in the gun.
Works perfectly w/ 5.56 Gunsite Scout
Works perfectly with the new Ruger Gunsite Scout rifle in 5.56. Shot some Black Hills 5.56 77gr TMK ammo with a Schmidt Bender Short Dot scope in a Spuhr canteliver mount and had no problems: no lossening. Hit the gong at 500 yards. Don't understand why "Paperweight" reviewer had issues - should have returned the item under Brownells excellent warranty. Used torque wrench to install screws (15 inch pounds) and no issues at all. Great rail for scopes with Picatinny rings/mounts.
Don't buy a scout without this rail!
Just got my rail and mounted it to my scout. For those lefties out there this rail is an ambi. I called XS before ordering from Brownells. I cannot believe that Ruger does not put this on from the factory. I have not even mounted my Weaver Scout and can tell you already it is a winner. And for the red dot with a magnifier, you should have more than enough room. The built in rear sight, looks great and seems to line up well with the front sight of the Ruger. This seems to be something that Brownells is going to have trouble stocking. I ordered mine the day they were taken off of back order and the day mine came in mail, it was back on back order. So, if you want one you had better get on the list. I without a doubt think you will not go wrong with this one.
Certainly improves your Ruger GSR
Fantastic innovation. Exactly as described, even came with some blue-loctite to ensure the mounts remain sturdy. The rear sight is identical to what comes on the Ruger, so that's a plus. Very light and rigid.
needs High scope rings 40mm or bigger!
this is a great product, makes a very versatile weapon even more so. in order to put my Nikon 3-9x40 scope on it, I needed High Height scope rings. not a big deal, just putting that out there. It would be nice if XS Systems made just the rear piece, for those of us that dont plan on using the front scout rail.
TOTAL FAILURE
I had the rail installed just to find out the rail screw holes were slightly off. The rail went on but would not line up for a scope. When trying to remove the rail to return it one of the mounting screw stripped out and now the rail will need to be removed by a gunsmith, IF he can remove it. I would not under ANY circumstances nor for ANY reason EVER recommend this product to anyone. I know now why it was so much cheaper here at Brownells. I am very disappointed by both the maker & seller of this junk.
