Satisfied !
I purchased this slide so as to not have my Glock slide milled. Pleased with machining quality and use of 17-4 stainless steel. Has run well through initial 150-200 rounds with aftermarket slide kit and SRO sight. Long term reliability and durability of nitride finish unknown at this time but I’m very pleased thus far especially at this price!
Exactly What I Was Looking For
I've got a slight vision issue under certain lighting conditions that are negated by a red dot. Slides milled to fit an RMR are generally VERY expensive, as is having existing slides milled and refinished. Not so with the Brownells slides!!! They are reasonably priced, and the fit and finish are as good or better than many of the more expensive options I've handled. The fit of the slide to RMR is VERY exacting. This required more patience than I expected, but not too bad. As tight as the fit is, I expect no issues with holding zero. Installing the channel liner was a breeze with the Brownells recommended tool, and swapping over the internals from my original slide was trivial. This slide with RMR installed weighed the same as the stock slide, so I expected recoil to be unchanged, and several hundred rounds of both range ammo and high end defensive ammo prove this to be true. I've not had any failures in those several hundred rounds. The slide and RMR also fit in every holster I already had for the G19. After shooting my RMR equipped G19, my wife asked me to start watching the sales. We'll be duplicating this setup for hers.
Great Slide for RMRs
I received my Gen 4 Brownells RMR cut slide a few days ago and could not be happier with it, especially at this price point. I had read issues others had with holster fitment, which as best I can tell has been resolved. It fits perfectly in the dozen or more kydex and duty holsters that I have laying around. The other issue I saw all over the internet was how ugly the top serrations are. My slide does not have the top serrations though the top corners are nicely beveled. My Glock guts went into the slide and I pressed in the channel liner with a steel punch with no issues at all. Lastly, my Holosun 507C mounted beautifully with the longer set of screws provided with the slide. As of this writing, the slide was assembled, lubed, optic installed, and it has run through a few hundred rounds without an issue.
Great slide
This slide is nice and fits in oem quality, when purchasing i was a little concerned if there would be corners cut somehow for the price, compared to other slides on the market. That was not the case at all. The only issue i have is the slide could have had edges better smoothed out and the fact that it comes with no rmr cover plate or adapter plate, which you will need if you want to run any red dot besides trijicon. Also the adapter plate that doesnt insert into the dovetail is scarce and will have to be outsourced. I found a plate through CH weapons and it was 70.00 at the time.
Great slide just some minor details
I held off giving a review to soon I wanted to get at least one thousand rounds through it before reviewing so I could give an objective opinion. I would give it 5 stars if Brownells would do one thing and that is knock back the hard edges that is literally my biggest complaint. The hard edges snag in holster draw till it clears the kydex away from the inside of the holster. Brownells before you nitride these thing tumble them in some media to round off the hard edges or do a dehorning job. My other complaint is really not a big deal because mine is already getting wear from the hundreds of draws from the holster, but for the no scratches and dings crowd it would be nice if they would pack the slides in a box and not just throw in bubble wrap shipping bag. My slide had a few dings on it from what I suspect was shipping and being beaten around. The slide has worked flawlessly and I transferred the guts of my stock G17 slide no issue. I plan to get another one for my G19 and mirror the setup on it. I have a Holosun 507c attached to mine.
going into battery issues
I have been trying to work with this slide for a few months now. I started with a Brownell's parts kit for it but the slide would consistently not go into battery. Sent the parts kit back and got a different one elsewhere. That worked better, but now it happens consistently if I have one in the chamber and try to rack the slide. The next round gets stuck between the breech face and the chamber. A good thump to the back of the slide gets it into battery but that is not OK. Tech suggested returning it. Otherwise the slide is great. Hopefully just mine is a little out of spec and causing the issue.
Tons of rustc
I have had this for a few years. After about 2 years it started to rust badly. Rust around the Red dot and Tritium sights, and at the bottom of and on the sides of the tactile grooves. Very disappointed in the long term value of this item. I would have gladly paid more for a proper finish. Glock OEM slides do not rust! It is cost prohibitive to send this out to get it coated properly ....
