REMINGTON 870 RIVET STAKING TOOL SET

REMINGTON 870 RIVET STAKING TOOL SET Reviews & Ratings

Two specially ground punches make fitting the 870-ejector spring and housing onto Remington’s unique 2-step rivet a snap! The 0.070" hole in the face of the #1 tool allows you to fasten the ejector housing to the receiver with the lower portion of the rivet. The #2 tool is then used to secure the ejector spring within the ejector housing with the upper portion of the rivet. The Deluxe Kit combines the above two punches with an ejector spring rivet cutter that lets you take off just the peened area of the front rivet. This often lets you re-peen the existing rivet.

Marc's Gunsmithing
Always get great results when I place an order. One of my go to places for gun repair parts and gunsmithing tool.

Stacking tools
Didn't have any of the issues reported in other reveiws. They worked fine and I hit the round staking tool pretty hard. Along with the rivet cutter it saved a bunch of money.

great tool
A lot of the reviews said this was a one time use tool. I had no issues with cracking or splitting. It worked great. I almost didn't do the job myself because of this, but went ahead and tried. I was light with the hammer and just worked until I had the rivets holding.

Works great!
Works great and is a must have along with spare parts if you plan to use your 870 as a wrol/shtf gun. Easy to use and with good instructions. Had no problem with the hardening like the other gentlemen.

only for front rivet.
Both of this tools are for the front rivet. Tool with the bigger hole is for the setting the ejector (front rivet). Next, tool with the smaller hole is for setting the ejector spring (also front rivet). For the rear rivet I used a 5/32 punch, it was kind of a tight squeeze in the ejector channels but it worked perfect. The rivet is made of soft metal so the 5/32 punch worked just fine.

It did the job, but????
I bought the set to reinstall the ejector, I only needed the one tool to form the rivet head, it did the job sufficiently but it’s actually damaged the surface of the tool. I’m not sure if it will work correctly to shape the rivet head for another repair. Even though it worked it’s definitely not quality tool steel. As a gunsmith, my opinion is the steel should be a higher quality and hardened better. I will be contacting Brownells and asking them to honor their forever warranty agreement.
Would you recommend this? Yes, I would recommend to a friend

Good design, but too soft
The theory on these is quite sound. They worked well once I hardened the staking tools. They claimed they were hardened to begin with, I found them to be dead soft.

Junk tools
The cutter is pure junk. The rivet sets are soft junk.

Must be modified for current ejector.
Replacement Remington ejector appears to be MIM, and doesnt allow either tool access to the front rivet. Concept is good, especially the #1 tool, but the engineering lacks. Hardness is in doubt; files like 1018. Best advice is to fabricate punches out of some sort of tool steel, which should last beyond one use. Product was marginal 30-years ago and hasnt been improved.

Great product idea
The rivet removing tool worked great and got the job done. The #1 punch on the other hand did not. I used a normal framing hammer as I saw in videos of these tools cracking from people using bigger hammers. But still the staking tool cracked after 5 hits. For the price of this kit I would think it would be able to last for more the one single rivet.
