Bombproof
Bought this to put on my M40 custom build. Heavy duty and bombproof. I told my smith I wanted to build a M40 based sniper rifle that I could drive tent pegs with and take a cold bore shot at 1000yds and get the hit. This scope base helped me accomplish that goal.

Great for the price
The base is made very well, proper fit and finish is very good. The supplied screws are in fact to short. I swapped them out in my screw kit for the next larger size up. The screws supplied will work but I would not trust them for anything with a heavy recoil. Brownell's needs to re kit this with the proper sized screws. Another review stated the base was to high. Well it is a 20 MOA base and the rear will be higher than a zero MOA base. Thats the nature of the beast. Scope height is based on more things than just the height of the base. scope clearance for one. and right height two stock shape will determine where your face sits and where your eye lines up with the scope. Why do you think there are typically four to five different scope ring heights? Other than that it's a great base priced at what a great base should cost.

Good Value Base
Base is very well made but a bit higher than it needs to be so unless you have an adjustable height cheekpiece on your stock, you need to raise your head up more to properly see through the scope. I have this model base for both my long and short action Remington 700 rifles and it was easy to drill out and tap the receiver to take the larger 8-40 screws included with these bases. Depending on the scope mounted, one may need to shorten the front of the base to clear the objective bell as it extends about 1 1/2" beyond the receiver. Since the base is made of aluminum, cold blue cannot be used to touch it up so paint is needed. An added benefit of using a picatinny type rail base instead of standard scope bases is that one can easily mount things like night vision devices on the rail. A steel version would be nice.

Nice mount ...BUT!
Really nice mount for the price, but the screws they provided were ridiculously SHORT and only extended HALF way into the receiver..I bought this knowing the existing 6-48 receiver screw holes needed to be drilled and re-tapped to stronger 8-40 (supposedly provided) which is what I do any way to all my receivers before mounting bases any way but was disappointed to find the 8-40 screws provided where way too short for any adequate holding strength..I usually have extras but not this time and 8-40 screws are not exactly laying around or obtainable at the hardware so had to order more of proper length and that sucked...Otherwise great mount for the price...

Screws Too Short
The scope base is well made. However the included screws are too short. The screws for the two rear holes would not even clear the base. I have two of the 20 MOA models of this base (080-000-761) and the holes in those are countersunk enough for the screws to engage the 8-40 threads in the action. Either this base's holes need to be countersunk deeper for the screw heads, or longer 8-40 screws needs to be included. I will now have to spend more money to buy 1/2" long 8-40 screws (080-924-847) and shorten them slightly to install this base on my rifle
