Great Lead Furnace
Great lead furnace with the bottom pour valve. Appears to hold temperature steady. Convenient, adjustable mold shelf under the spout. A really great upgrade from my 55 year old Herters pot.
Top lead melting pot!
This is the best value in lead casting pots for the home reloaded. I would suggest this unit over the 10 lb unit only because as your excitement grows, so will your need for a larger pot. It is very easy to use and designed to work with all home casting molds. The great price is topping on the cake. Realize there is a 110 v and a 220 v model when you order.
Lee normal Well made Lee Product
I have use the smaller lead pot for many years .... miss placed it during a move and wanted to cast some more bullets =) So why not go larger pot this time ... just in case I find the original one =) Never go wrong with Lee Products =)
nice tool
This pot works as well if not better than the more costly ones. Easy to use, and the guide is in exactly the right place.
A new/old Melter
Me and hot lead are not the best friends, so this is for someone else. In the past 30 years I've bought every melter done by Lee for different friends and everyone, at some momment, end up buying this model, the best Lee made. It has all the extras you need and the lower priced models miss. So, if you are going to cast lead, buy this one the first time and save your money.
Great Pot
I am new to casting and this was my first pot. I was going to go with a ladle version, and decided to go this way instead. I started with pure wheel weights and forgot to flux the first few pounds... my bad. I put them into this pot to begin casting and immediately noticed a drip... I heard these were known for that and found no remedy. However, after I discovered it was because I was putting dirty lead into it... Once I cleaned it up and put good lead into the pot, it has dropped about 5 drops in 1000 rounds. The temp adjustment works great on it, and it stays constant. I feel no need to upgrade this pot as it does everything I want it to do and then some. I know Lee doesn't make the best reloading stuff, but they sure make some good casting things!
Great pot; no leaks
I recently replaced my Lee Production Pot IV which I had used for over 20 years and had cast well over 10,000 bullets before it started leading uncontrollably. I contacted Lee and found that the plunger needed to be replaced and that I could send it in for repair at half the MSRP price of the current model plus shipping. A quick calculation showed that I could replace it with a brand new Pro 4-20 for about the same cost so I opted for the new one. That's because the there's a significant difference between the MSRP and the street price. I'm glad I opted for a new Pro 4-20. Leakage seems to be common complaint with most lead melters and a small amount is to be expected. But my new pot rarely leaks and when it does a quick lift of the valve lever fixes it. I had been totally happy with my Production Pot IV despite its minor leakage and I hadn't given much thought to the added capacity but it really makes a big difference in a long casting session. I can now cast 600+ 125 grain bullets without reloading the pot. That's about double what I could cast with my smaller pot without adding lead. That's a big improvement and a time-saver. With both pots, I can cast between 100 and 150 bullets per hour mostly dependent on the quality of the casts. During my first session with my new pot, I cast 100 bullets in about 45 minutes with two bad casts. But that's really a product of casting techique and not a product of the pot itself. As long as it pours leead into the mold at the temperature I've designated, it's doing its job. And that's what this pot does round after round after round. And doing it without leaks is another plus. Compared to other lead melters on the market the Lee pots, whether it's a Production Pot IV or a Pro 4-20, are reasonably priced and work well. You can't ask for any more than that. One final note. After buying the Pro 4-20, I decided to refurbish the Production Pot IV, myself. I ordered a replacement Pot and plunger for about $15.00 plus shipping and found the repairs simple and quick to do. Lee has reasonably priced replacement parts available and the pots are easy to repair without the cost of shipping it back to Lee and paying them to do what most people should be able to do for themselves...especially those who are involved in casting their own bullets or fishing lures.
