PICATINNY RAIL BLANK Reviews & Ratings
Good for those oddball customer requests
I had a customer request cutting the carry handle off an AR15 A2, and replacing it with Picatinny rail, and a rail on the floating handguard. Yes, a new upper would have been cheaper, but the customer is always right. I order 2 of these rails. The first one was cut on the bottom by mounting it vertically in the milling machine, and setting a boring bar to the correct diameter to match the hand guard. The ends were milled to end on a full section. It was then screwed to the handguard (watch out for the gas tube when drilling and tapping). A careful measurement was taken from the top edge of this one to the top of the receiver, and the second one was milled to that thickness, with a slot for the ridge on the receiver to match. I then used an upper vise with a picatinny slot to hold the two pieces together and in alignment while using Acroglass to epoxy the second rail to the receiver. The ends were cut with a saw, and were not square to the centerline. Not a problem for my application since I was milling it, but that is why it didn't get 5 stars.
