Almost Government Issue
This stock is probably the closest you'll get to government issue. I bought it to replace the stock for my Ruger AR556. The Brownells stock is definitely better than the Ruger stock though they are very similar. I tried using a hasty sling with the Ruger stock and the rear sling loop rotated because it isn't enclosed on the left and right sides like the Brownells stock. Others commented that they couldn't install the stock without tearing down the adjustment lever mechanism. These stocks are among the easiest to install and remove compared to more expensive options. Probably the others don't know that you need to push down on the rear of the adjustment lever to lower the locking pin enough to clear the rear edge of the buffer tube (receiver extension). To adjust length of pull after installing the stock, you squeeze the adjustment lever. To install it you push down on the rear of the lever. You can test it out and see for yourself before attempting installation. There are more comfortable stocks on the market, that's true, but this stock is for those who want a setup more like a government issue M4. I like this stock and it is a great lower cost upgrade to the OEM Ruger stock.

M 4 Carbine G I buttstock
Wanted a buttstock that looks right on a M 4. This is as close as you are going to get unless you can get some one to steal one for you off an M4. Got the codes on it as well and is shorter than mill spec commercial like an M4 is supposed to be. I suspicion it looks and fits tight like an original does because it is.
Defective assembly by the manufacturer.
The locking pin was not correctly adjusted at the factory. I had the same problem as another reviewer here--if the shooter keeps the release lever depressed while extending the stock then it will simply slide off the buffer tube. The stock should only come off the tube when the forward portion of the release lever is pulled outward. Fortunately this is an easy fix by driving out a roll pin and turning the locking pin to give more protrusion into the stock channel.
The stock is of good quality, fairly priced but has poor QC. Marked with CAGE code 8FW25. I recommend that purchasers of this stock check for correct function. If a rifle is slung upside down and the release lever is inadvertently depressed, there is a possibility that the stock will detach and the rifle will fall to the ground if the locking pin was not correctly installed.

Cheap But Flawed
The pin in the adjustment lever is adjusted wrong and it can be just pulled off the tube without over extending the lever.
I had to drive out the pin, run the screw all the way down and drive in a new pin to get it to work properly.

Defective from new - latch pin will not hold stock in place.
Seems like it could be a decent product for the low price, but the latching pin will not hold position. A swift jolt -such as you get upon recoil of any round whatsoever- fully compresses the buttstock to the shortest position. That's quite a surprise the first time it happens, and not acceptable in a new product. Another reviewer suggested driving out the roll pin and readjusting the set screw. I will try that. But I shouldn't have to.
