M1500 6.5 PRC CARBON FIBER BARRELED ACTION

M1500 6.5 PRC CARBON FIBER BARRELED ACTION Reviews & Ratings

Tack-Driving Target Barrel in a Lightweight Carbon-Fiber Wrapped Package!
The Brownells Exclusive Howa M1500 barreled action in 6.5 PRC has a carbon fiber wrapped 24" heavy-contour target barrel to help you get the maximum performance out of this versatile cartridge without suffering the weight penalty of traditional, all-steel target barrels. Fully assembled with the barrel chambered, installed, and properly headspaced, this action eliminates the most difficult work in "building" your own bolt action rifle. Install it in the stock or chassis system of your choice, and you have high-quality custom rifle at an amazingly affordable cost.
Like all Howa M1500 actions, this 6.5 PRC version includes a forged one-piece bolt body with two locking lugs and an integral bolt handle. The bolt face is precisely squared to the barrel chamber for excellent contact with the receiver recess. An M16-style extractor ensures reliable, positive extraction. A full-length bottom metal with hinged floorplate, magazine box, mag spring, and front/rear action screws are part of the package. Receiver is drilled and tapped for a scope base. Other features include:
Heavy-contour yet LIGHTWEIGHT carbon-fiber wrapped target barrel
Muzzle brake / flash suppressor 5/8"-24 tpi muzzle threads (cap included)
Tough matte black Cerakote® finish
Two-stage trigger with 3-position safety
A high-quality target barrel needs to be matched to a precision trigger, which is exactly what Howa did here. You get their HACT two-stage trigger that delivers a light (more accurately "de-lightful"!), consistent pull, and a crisp let-off. The "Howa Actuator Controlled Trigger" has a uniquely configured sear and precision-cut contact surfaces, so creep is entirely eliminated. The three-position safety allows the bolt to be completely locked and also enables the action to be unloaded while on safe. ALL of this adds up to nearly AR-15-like modularity and ease of assembly in a traditional bolt action platform! FFL required for purchase.

Shoots 1/2 MOA
Bought the Howa M1500 6.5 PRC CARBON FIBER BARRELED ACTION and dropped into a MDT ESS chassis, Timney Trigger and topped off with Vortex Strike Eagle. Shoots 1/2 MOA.

3rd Howa Build
I've built a 6.5 Grendel and a 6.5 Creedmoor with Howa receivers and they are great. I just built this 6.5 PRC and finally shot it today and I'm extremely satisfied. It shot accurate even with the barrel not broken in. Well worth the cost if you're a build it yourself person.

Fantastic
Ordered the Howa M1500 6.5 PRC Carbon Fiber Barreled Action, and a Stocky's Stocks Carbon Fiber stock, and on the first range trip it shot truly fantastically. The second three shot group at 100 yards measured .233", and the third measured .299". Both were shot with Factory loaded Norma 143gr Golden Target Match ammuntion.

This makes a great rifle
I was impressed with this Howa barreled action. The carbon fiber barrel is light so it gives you a lot of options. I stuck mine into an MDT LSS XL chassis with some weights added to make it a good target shooter. It shot under 1 MOA with a non-optimal bag and tripod setup. After I dial in some handloads and get a better tripod I wouldn’t be surprised to see .5 MOA from it. After an afternoon of shooting I noticed that the barrel cooled quickly. Good rifle at a not bad price.

My daughter's BB gun makes tighter groups...
I first shot this setup on an MDT chassis in Jan. Couldn't get better than a 2" group with 140 ELDM and later found the scope rings were not quite torqued to spec so I blamed the scope - but I put it on another rifle and it did fine. I finally get a chance to shoot it 7mo later, so I took scope off my bench 6.5cm (that was shooting 1/2moa or better) and put it on this rig... same thing, 2"+ groups. Check and double check scope rings, rail and chassis bolts to be sure torqued to spec - all good. Cleaned and tried again.. this time Barbour Creek's manager shooting... it didn't improve a bit. Don't know what's up with it, but I ordered a Benchmark to replace it with as it's been too long since I bought from Brownell's to do anything for me... sad I wasted 3 boxes of Hornady ELDM on this trying to get a group. If you want carbon, stick with a Proof barrel, or better.

Was hoping for more
I have heard many good things about these actions. I bought the carbon barreled 6.5 PRC. I put it in an MDT Oryx chassis. I did the recommended barrel break in and I have tried multiple rounds and all have been over an MOA. I might need to send it back. I think I just got one out of spec.
