Does the job
While it may be cumbersome to put on the screen, then attach it to a rod to pull through, this plug really gets the job done. After numerous cleaning attempts, a shot of Kroil followed by several passes got the stubborn lead deposits out.
Cleaning took FOREVER before this!
I've been shooting a lot of factory load slugs lately, and, oh boy, this this makes de-leading the barrel so much more time efficient! A little elbow grease and a dozen or more passes and I strip great huge flakes of lead out. What took hours now takes.. an hour. I'm loving this little thing, so glad I found it!
Get the lead out
I have been using this product for 30+ years and this is my favorite one to get the lead out. I have the pistol kit in several calibers also. This product will save you time and will out preform any combination of brush and solvent. Just adjust for a tight fit pull it through the bore knock the lead off do it again until no lead is present than follow up with J&B bore cleaning and you will have a bore cleaner than new.
Best lead removing system I've ever used
I've tried scrubbing with chemicals, steel wool, toothbrushes, and even picked away at lead left behind with dental picks and other harmful instruments. This lead removing system gets all the lead out on the first pull through the bore 98% of the time and gets anything that's left over on the second pull through the bore. Much easier, less costly, and safer than my old ways. Get one....Use it....and get back to shooting your cast bullets. Spend more time shooting, less time cleaning!
Not a better tool made for Muzzleloaders
I first used the Lewis Lead Remover back in the early 80's on my competition revolvers after shooting lead bullets. I now own a company that teaches others how to improve the accuracy of their muzzleloading rifles. I was surprized to see that it came in a size that fit a .50 cal rifle. It is truly the very best tool available to remove the heavy crud to include sabot plastic from modern muzzloading rifles. It worked just as I expected. In todays new muzzleloaders, clean is one of major factors that leads to the level of accuracy that we pass onto our customers. This tool has some age on it, as do I, but it is still the best game in town for removing crud from a dirty barrel. The Lewis Lead Remover is now recommended to all of our customers as the best option for removing EVERYTHING from their barrel but the rifling. Thanks for keeping this old tool around.
Best Commercially Available Deleader !
As the title says, it's the best one you can buy, though it is a little fussy to adjust the tension using the 'rifle' version. But it'll remove 80% of heavy lead buildup on the 1st pass. Once a particular screen disc is formed, it removes much less (subsequent passes) & in a badly leaded bore, I've had to follow up using copper wool around an old bore brush & chemicals to loosen the last bits. Still, this tool saves time getting the worst of it out. I would buy again, for another caliber if needed. (8mm for me). I'd give it 5 stars, if one could tighten the fit AFTER the screen is formed. Also, 10 discs isn't enough, should be 15 + more available.
Lewis Lead remova
I ordered the removal kit for a new to me Springfield Trapdoor. The package showed up and I can say that I’m less than impressed. Three little pieces with no patches to do any cleaning. What a disappointment. Now I’ll have to place another order to be able to use the kit to clean the barrel. Why have a kit,,, if it doesn’t come complete?
Not for .30 caliber, very disappointed!
I am very disappointed in this product. I have had great success with the Lewis Lead Remover in the past, I own one in .38 caliber and one in .45 caliber. I had high hopes for this one in .30 caliber. I have an old 30-30 that needed the lead deposits removed. Unfortunately as it comes out of the package this product is unusable. It was too large in diameter to fit a .30 caliber bore. I was going to return it but I needed it desperately. I ended up machining the front part down to a usable diameter then replacing the rubber part with O-rings. I should not have to pay $20 to Brownell's for this, they should pay me to modify it so it would work.
