Bucks stop here
I reload and hunt deer and hogs with this bullet. I use my .450 Marlin lever rifle. Never had an animal go more than 50 yards. Most drop on the spot. This is a very accurate round. I have never taken a shot beyond 125 yards with this rifle. Never required more than one round. If your rifle uses .458 diam. bullets this is the round you should be using. I am pleased.
Great Bullet
Very accurate bullet. Easy to load. Recently Hornady attempted to force the experimental gene injection onto their employees. They changed their tune but lied about their initial position, saying they were merely giving their employees the option. For now I'm glad they changed their stance, but we need more companies to do the right the thing on the first try and not have to change their tune once the people insist on their freedom. Anyway, good bullets.
Hot rod bullet for the old 45 colt!!!!!
Im hooked on these 225 grain FTX projectiles from Hornady. I load these for my Marlin 1894 in 45 (Long) Colt, and that Rifle loves em. It feeds them perfectly and shoots them accurately. I know a lot of 45 colt shooters dont like this bullet, due you have to trim your brass back to about 1.215- 1.225, to accommodate the extra length of the projectile. But I have no issue with that, just leaves more of these beauties for me :-) And during this CONTROLLA VIRUS panic buying ammo shortage, this is about the only 45 colt projectiles you can find readily, and I dont mind one bit. Theyre priced reasonably well and shoot even better. I load these to 1.645 C.O.A.L. With cases trimmed back to 1.220 over 9.5gns of Longshot powder for standard loads, and also load some up a little hotter around the 20,000psi range. I dont like loading up to Ruger Blackhawk levels like some folks do with their lever guns, but thats just me, 1400fps with about 1000 ft/lbs of energy is A1 ok by me. But these bullets loaded to the right velocity will drop just about any creature in the USA, within 50 yards, and these projectiles do their intended purpose when they strike a soft target, and thats penetrate, expand, and dump their energy into target. Love these projectiles, so does my Marlin 94, and thats why I have a nice little stock pile of them at hand. I recommend to anyone with a 45 colt lever gun or revolver.
Great bullet
Using 39.2 grn of H110 I can clover leaf groups at 50 and keep a 1 group at 100 out of my bushmaster AR15.
Hard to get but worth the wait
Easy to load properly flat shooting consistent in size and weight fun to shoot works well in a lever action gun
FTX 30-30 160 gr works great for my 3006
Started reloading for my 30-06 2 years ago to try it, have refined the reload and tested to just under 2900 FPS and ended up with a round I would recommend to any deer hunter for 50 to 200 yards flat shooting ! My reload has a 1 inch drop from dead on at100yrds to 200yrds out!!!!!!!!! Super knock down power was shown on 5 white tail bucks at 150 to 200yrds.
Explosive
I used these in a inline with great accuracy using BH 209 T/C doe never even knew what hit her. But no Blood. Second deer was shoot with 460 S&W T/c with MGA barrel again very accurate 2700fps. Hit an Ohio Buck at 75 yards ran 30 yards and fell over. Again no blood to trail even in snow for the first 15 yards.
