Great upgrade, well worth it!
Great upgrade for a gun that doesnt need much and not much is available for. This stock not only looks much better than the Ugg boot but it is also much stronger and includes a very solid aluminum hinge as well. I have two of these and both have slid on with no trouble at all. The little waterproof storage spot is nice to have as well. I recently added a SCAR 16 to my pair of 17s and will be ordering another ACR stock kit for it. Kinetic Development Group makes great products, I have been completely satisfied will everything of theirs Ive ever tried. Parker Mountain Machine makes some cool short rails and grip panels but for everything else SCAR related I turn to KDG first. And of course, Brownelles carrys everything youd want.
Much better for lefties!
The "boot" SCAR stock, while being advertised as ambidextrous isn't really. The "hook" on the right side of the stock that clips onto the brass deflector to hold the stock folded is perfectly placed to snag a leftie's left cheek. For this reason shooting the SCAR has been an unpleasant experience up to now. With the new stock I actually begin to understand the SCAR's popularity. DO NOT pass this up if you're left handed! Works as advertised!
I've owned my black SCAR 17 for ten years now and have been wanting to mount a different stock ever since I bought it. This Kinetic is the answer! It fits like a glove and is worth the $$ even just for the "looks" factor. Some appear to have had some issues with mounting it on the rifle but I had none. Old ug-boot off, slide new stock on with no effort at all. It slid on like it was a FN factory accessory. I always use a VORTEX 4X scope with a Quick Detach Vortex mount when shooting at the range and haven't found any problem with the cheekpiece height either. This is a QUALITY unit, worth every penny and will last a lifetime. Buy with confidence.
Works as advertised
The perfect replacement for that nasty "boot" that came with the rifle. PLUS it just improves the "look" of the weapon. Some have mentioned difficulty with installation. I had absolutely none. The unit slid right on without pounding, modification, or cursing. The only "drawback" is that there is no provision to lock the unit in the folded position as there is no corresponding latch detent. Not a problem as the stock pretty much stays where you put it unless you plan to do a lot of run-n-gun style hip-shooting.
Well worth the money
Get rid of your UGG Boot on your SCAR rifle. This is what FN should have installed in the first place. Solid, well build! A+++
Not good for an optic
Purchased this stock from Brownells. The stock is actually a magpul stock and KDG fits their adapter for it. While marginally more durable than the factory FN stock, the factory stock had been improved a lot. The KDG stock main failure is the cheek riser. The high position on the KDG stock is the same level as the FN stock low position, so you don't really have a higher cheek setting. Get this stock if you want that cool look. Don't get it if you're running an optIc and want a cheek riser.
It's ok.
The magpul acr stock is marginally more sturdy than the standard SCAR stock system, but it's not as good. The reason I say that is the cheek riser on the ACR stock, even on on the high position is lower than the OEM stock. If you plan on using an optic with a the cheek riser up this is not the stock.
Could be better
The stock is solid but it doesn't fit well at all. I have to use a mallet and a lot of effort to put the stock on and take it off. This makes it impossible to full disassemble or remove the bold carrier group in the field.
Dont see any improvment.
Stock looks great. But that is where the pros end. On a Scar 17, the cheek weld either raised or lowered is to low to use a low profile mounted optic. But it's pretty? Bad news... had to literally be beat on with a mallet. Apparently that is a good thing in KDG's eyes? inversely it has to be beat off with a mallet as well. Lube didn't help this issue. I dont see how or why anyone would pay 300.00 for something that has less function than the OEM stock.
