Not USA made but 0 regret
TLDR: I put together a tactical shotgun build with the Mossberg 590 and needed a sight and what I happened to find on sale was this precious little gem. At $164 this little product is great especially when considering an Eotech or Trijicon. Here's why: Let me start with the boxing, amazing. It wasn't a flimsy little box. Though it wasn't made with beskar, it was a good quality cardboard and everything was individually wrapped and well-fitted in a sturdy foam. The dust cover, great. After unboxing I put the dust cover on the unit, without installing, and I could not get that cover off and was panicked a little about scratching the surface. I got it off and all was good. The dot, fabulous. After fumbling with the batter cover a smidge, minor design quirk, I put the unit to the test. I am still waiting for my next shipment of slugs so with a 3-moa and buckshot... accuracy is relative. The features, limited. For my purposes I am absolutely fine with the way this optic is setup. Press the button once for automatic brightness and then each press toggles manually until off. No shake to wake or auto off. The whatever: it is not made in USA. It was stamped for the Philippines, and that works for me as long as it isn't china. I hate to say it but I will cut costs if it means imported goods right now. The future, optimistic. In the lists of best uses I included self-defense, tactical, and target practice. These are for my uses and my opinion of this optic. Results may vary. I have not gone hunting yet but with shotgun hunting I think I can make this work better than the bead. For competition, simply unsure. Sorry, mates.
Great red dot
I use these red dots on all my competition equipment. I have never had a problem holding zero, no matter what I put it through. It also comes with a slip on cover which keeps it dry. Made in the USA with a no questions asked warranty.
Perfect of M&P CORE
This sight will mount on the M&P CORE using mount #5 and is the perfect answer to those of us with aging and failing eyesight. It will barely co-witness with the iron sights but since I do not shoot competitively I do not find that an issue. I normally use the auto adjust feature for the red dot intensity at the range and when I carry concealed. I have used the Trijicon RMR and I prefer this sight over the very expensive RMR. For me cost is no object I just seem to see the dot faster and easier using the Burris however the RMR will allow you to co-witness the iron sights. Through thousands of .40 and 9mm rounds I have not had a problem holding zero. The lifetime no hassle Burris warranty is a real plus but you already have that with every item purchased at Brownells.
Mounted on SW M&P Core 9mm
Was able to use one of the enclosed mounts from SW to attach to the CORE 9mm. Used bore sight laser to align and have used it through 400-500 rounds with no problems and very accurately. This sight will co-witness with the regular sights that come on the pistol. Plenty of dot types and sizes and easy to use. Has been very durable with no problems of any kind.
Ideal for home defense carbines
I use my Fastfire 3 mounted in the Burris shielded lower profile mount not the larger mount with battery compartment, mounted on a CX4 Storm. This allows co-witness of the iron sights though the Fastfire 3. So far I fired over 1000 using the Fastfire without need to adjust the zero. Battery life is very good, and the auto mode starts with a single button press, the auto adjust is typically the only mode need in most situations. It is very light weight and compact. While it is not as robust as some of the larger more expensive Red Dots it is well built and easy to maintain. I feel it's ideal for home defense and range use it probably won't hold up to continuous extreme use and abuse as the most robust models. My only complaint is that I wish the power button was a bit larger, as it's a bit difficult to press with the shielded mount, but it's nothing training can't adjust for.
Wonderful alternative to Vortex Razor!
Worked absolutely wonderfully on my AR-15 build. It's small, compact, and fairly rugged (as far as I can tell). The only pain was I had to put a high riser on my flat top for the line of sight to match the ATI stock I have on it (more my fault for lack of research). The automatic lighting feature is perfect, and its really the only setting I use on it. It will quickly adjust the brightness of the Dot based on ambient lighting just as advertised. Going from sunny 3-gun training outside to a shaded bench area, I did not need to adjust anything. The mount holds tight and level to a Picatinny rail and after 1000 rounds, running around (a couple drops), and getting thrown around in a soft case, I did not have to readjust the zero at all and was easily hitting plates at 300m. For almost have the price of the Vortex Razor, I really have to recommend this.
The best reflex red-dot for the money !
I own the Burris FastFire II as well as the FastFire III. I'm an NRA bullseye compeitor and both of these products are great for fast aquistion of target and accurity. The new features of the III: brightness control and battery replacement are great. I highly reccomend this product.
Great Red dot by Burris
I used this red dot with the will to destroy it during a very rainy hog season. Well the mission of killing the red dot was out the door.Yep! it held up to mud/outdoor shiz and so on.Worked well in all sorts of lighting conditions as well. I dropped it, let it slip out of my hands oops! and it kept going.I had zeroed the redot in before i left for the feild to get some hogs. I thought for sure the dot would be out of whack but NO!. It held on and i was able to hit the objective hog for the eatins. Good Red Dot for the money!it will put meat on the table.I use this red dot for my Beowulf .50 also 12 guage shotgun,5.56x45mm. it can handle the g forces.
Battery difficult to install
Like the light weight. The 8 MOA dot is bright and is not washed out in bright light. Would like to kick every engineer involved with development in the balls several times. Installing the battery cap is nearly impossible. They could have made the red dot a few millimeters higher. Seems as uf there are only 1 or 2 threads. Expect the red dot will contine to work but will likely need to get another replacement when I strip the 1 or 2 theads that hold the battery in place. Idiots one and all for screwing up the battery cap design. Would like to use the red dot on my 8 shot revolver. If you dont hold the handgun in exactly the proper position, the dot disappears. Would not recommend for self defense. If you need to get a shot off fast, good luck with that. For someone the shoots every day, expect the dot acquisition becomes easier with time. But I shoot a couple Steel matches a month. Expect my times would be better with iron sights. The dot does make hitting distant targets easier. It just takes longer to get the shots off. Expect other carry optics red dots suffer the same problem. This red dot would be more suitable for a shotgun or rifle. friends that have these on rifles dont struggle to find the red dot. Do have an ancient Tasco red dot that is 16 moa and has a huge diameter tube. Expect I will swap out the red dot on my 9mm PCC. The Fast Fire 3 will be moved to my 9mm PCC. Dont have the time to constantly practice quickly acquiring the dot
Does Not Fit All Weaver Rails
Purchased this product for my S&W 22A pistol. I contacted Burris first to ask it it would fit a Weaver rail on a 22A and was told it would. Brownells' writeup also says it will fit a Weaver rail. The cross member is too thick on the mount to fit in the groove of the 22A Weaver. This causes the sight to rock like a see saw and makes it impossible to hold a zero. Other than that the sight seemed to be well built. The little button that controls the brightness settings (first push auto, second, third, forth controls brightness, fifth push turns off.) was not real easy to push. I would have kept the sight had it fit the rail. Basically I liked it, but had to return due to the thick cross bar which I consider to be a design defect. It's not like S&W is a minor player, and if they call it a Weaver rail, Burris should conform. Brownells' tech support was very helpful, and suggested an alternative in the same price range, which I ordered. Burris tech support (email) was helpful, timely, and finally confirmed that the S&W Weaver Rail was a 3/8 groove and was too thin. I really hope they take a little thickness off of their crossbar to open up new markets and get fewer returns. That would have rated it 4 stars.
