Excellent tool

This product is designed to determine the width of the dovetail on the sight, and to measure the dovetail slot as it is cut. It uses round pins, the way machinist measure dovetails, since you can't measure to the corner of the cut any other way. I used it to measure and cut front and rear sight dovetails on a new stainless steel 1911 slide. It worked as expected, it is a third hand to hold the pins against the dovetail while taking measurements.

Not applicable to new sight installation

I purchased this based on the description saying it will measure the dovetail - I need the dovetail angle to cut a dovetail for a slide. This device won't do that at all. In fact, I can't figure out how it can be helpful. Maybe I'm missing something. Without the dovetail angle this device can't measure anything. Dial calipers can measure what this measures without the math and without knowing the dovetail angle.
