Been using this for a while now and it works great if you follow the directions. clean, clean, clean!
Really good product
After experimenting with Dicropan for about ten years, I have to say it works very well for what it is. I have had very good results with hot water bluing. I blued a pistol barrel 10 years ago (hot water blued) Oiled it and let it sit. It still sits on my bench. Still blued, been handled hundreds of times, Has never had any oil applied to it. (follow directions for hot water bluing from Brownells.) Most use is for touch up bluing Works great. multiple coatings, will get the desired results. Again (Follow the Directions). (Trick use some 000steel wool apply blue with a cotton ball then switch to the steel wool rub lightly, it will blacken up the part.)
STUFF IS AMAZING
when you want a good bluing job this stuff makes it easy and quick and the coating is durable.
Dicropan IM
Used this product quite often about 15 years ago and never had any problems even on Winchester "mystery metal receivers. I recently started blueing again and this product is just not the same. No matter how well I followed the directions I kept getting off color splotchy looking results. I don't know if the formula was changed or what. I switched to Mark Lee's Express Blue no 1 and the problem was solved
Horrible
I used this stuff a few years ago and got a splotchy looking mess from it. I decided it must have been something I done wrong. In trying to get a double gun blued before Christmas for my granddad, I just used it again and made sure to follow the directions perfectly. Even used a heat gun to make sure the parts were completely dry before carding. Also did the optional acid pickle before hand due to the finished product looking so bad the time before. This time it got a faint straw color and would not get any darker. After 5 applications it was no darker than it was after the second application. So much for getting it done for Christmas... So in my opinion, just use a slow rust product and be much, much happier with the end result.
