BRASS BOSS CASE PREP UNIT Reviews & Ratings
Quality unit but
The unit works very well but needs a few features changed. It needs an on/off rocker switch on the front of the unit. RCBS needs to sell a USA version with one 120 vac plug. We dont need a unit with power adapters for world wide operation. If they dont need to supply the other power adapters , they can lower the cost of production and sell it to us for a lower price
Needs a separate on/off switch
I owned the "Trim Mate" case prep center prior to owning the new "Brass Boss," so I can effectively compare the two units. The Trim Mate had a slightly smaller footprint, and the working area was lower in relation to the table top than the Brass Boss. I do like the taller work area on the Brass Boss, which gets it up off the bench top so I don't feel like I am working in a hole around the other stuff on the bench. There are only five stations on the Trim Mate as opposed to six on the Brass Boss. The Trim Mate operates at only one speed, while the Brass Boss has adjustable speed and can operate at a higher RPM. The Brass Boss also seems to have more torque (power) and is slightly quieter. All stations on the Trim Mate operate at the same speed, but two of the stations on the Brass Boss operate at a higher speed than the other four. The Trim Mate has an on/off switch conveniently located on the top of the unit near the back. This is where I begin to be a little disappointed in the Brass Boss. If I assume that the side where the electrical cord exits the unit is the back, then the only way to turn the Brass Boss on/off and adjust the speed is from the back. This means you have to keep it pulled away from the wall a little so you can reach behind to turn it on and adjust the speed. This effectively makes it take up more space on the bench. Further, there is not a separate on/off switch, so you have to adjust it to the desired speed every time you turn it on. This is not very convenient, and caused me to buy a separate foot switch to turn the unit on/off without disturbing the speed setting. I am very happy with the current setup (with a foot switch), but it would have been better if there was a separate on/off switch on the top of the unit like the Trim Mate had. It would be even better if the speed control was on the front or top of the unit, in addition to an on/off switch. For this reason, I am taking one star away in my rating.
