IVE BOUGHT A FEW OF THESE
IF YOU SHOOT A LOT OF SHELLS AND HAVE EVER BURNED YOUR HAND BY ACCIDENTALLY TOUCHING THE BARREL THIS ITEM IS FOR YOU. IT INSTALLS EASILY AND QUICKLY AND DOESN'T NEED TO BE REMOVED WHEN YOU CLEAN THE BORE OR BREAK DOWN YOUR SHOTGUN. IT ALSO ADDS A TOUGH LOOK TO THE SHOTGUN. IVE ONLY INSTALLED THIS ON MOSSBERG 500'S AND HAVE HAD NO PROBLEMS.

Solid Piece of Gear
Installed the Heat Shield on my Rem 870 in about 10 minutes and it fit with no alterations to the shield or the shotgun. Well constructed with an excellent pattern for heat dispersion. I would buy it again.

A good buy
This was an easy install, it is not a custom piece built specific to any gun, it is built to fit every 870 ever made. Take your time and you won't damage the finish on your weapon or on the heat shield. The instructions are pretty clear and easily followed (I read them afterwards) no modification was required to my weapon (H&R Pardner Protector Pump) even though I installed an 870 wood stock and forearm and a +2 magazine extension. The heat shield does require a little patience for a good tight fit but looks good after installation. It is a great deal for quality and looks, especially because it it metal and cost the same as some synthetic models

Difficult to install
Quality parts and manufacturing, but tricky to install on my 870 Tactical. Took some extra bending of the middle tabs and widening of the receiver-end of the shield to fit snug around my barrel. Had to file down the upper inside edge of the fore-end, as well, as the middle tabs were grinding on it upon cycling the action.

Great for removing the finish on any gun
Do you have a shotgun and just hate the finish on the barrel? What about the fore end? Is that pesky wood finished too nice for your rugged look?? Then this is the heat shield for you! Putting this on an 870 tactical is as easy as removing the barrel, installing the shroud on the barrel, and then never putting the barrel back on the gun! If you want your shotgun to go back together you could always remove some of the material from the rear wings but lets be real, we all bought this for the sick look and ease of installation and nothing looks sicker than a shotgun with no barrel!!

Do not buy this heat shield
Don't buy this. After trying to install it I could tell it wouldn't look good on my Mossberg 500. It was hard to install and you have to bend the tabs on it as instructed to fit it. You will scratch up your gun trying and you will not get them to look even after bending. I ended up throwing it away and ordering a OEM heatshield made by Mossberg. The higher price of the OEM one is worth it. Just go that route.

Not for Winchester 1200/1300
I bought this for my Winchester 1300 it does not fit properly it can be affixed I guess so technically it works in a sense but is extremely awkward i brought this up to brownells as the box does not state its for a 1300 or 1200 all i got in response was it may require bending to fit properly even if done it is an improper fit for these shotguns description is not correct. I asked to return due to this issue and was only told to bend to fit. Just because you can make something fit doesn't mean it's meant to or should be put on.

GARBAGE
This heat shield is absolute garbage! It looked alright until I racked my shotgun, then it scratched the ever loving god out of my nice wood fore end. Also, it's only held on by two cheap screws on the barrel, meaning when you shoot, it slides and scratches the finish on your gun up. Try and tighten it some more so it doesn't slide? Well it'll snap the screws and leave you with a broken heat shield, permanently marred up fore end, and a scratched gun.

1300 defender
*this may not apply to all shotguns* The fit and finish of the product is unacceptable. During install the heat shield heavily scratches the barrel's finish. The receiver end of the shield does not grip the barrel well allowing it to move and produce wear on the barrel. The forward end, with the two screw holes, comes to you flared out and out of alignment. This neccesitates a lot of test fits and alterations which again damages the finish of the gun. A gunsmith might have better luck with it. Mine found its way into the dumpster.
